These pencils are colourless and made with the same binder used in coloured pencils which allows you to blend two or more colours together.

The colourless Blender allows you to apply layers of colour, enhancing the intensity of coloured pencils.

Available individually or in a blister containing 2 of each of the blender and burnisher pencils, plus an eraser and sharpener. With a proud heritage dating back to 1832; we have been creating pencils in the Lake District, UK, ever since. This review is about how the pens work on different papers as opposed to how they work with different pencil ranges, I may decide to trial them out with different pencil ranges and add them to this page, but as there are quite a lot of reviews already out there showing that information, I decided to just keep it simple and opt for a review suited to other solvent newbies like me!

You should only need a little as any more will push the dust around the paper as you mix the colours. Colourless oil and wax-based medium for universal use allowing you to blend, mix and deepen colours. Using the blender pen on textured paper like this Colourfix, will saturate the nib of the pen as a lot of the pigment from the pencil can sit on the grit of the paper. Use different paintbrushes for larger and smaller areas but wipe off excess pigment before moving on to the next colour and wash your brushes thoroughly after use.They work best on absorbent papers such as watercolour ones but being alcohol based, they can cause colour bleed if used on lightweight papers. Use it over the top of coloured pencils to add a gloss finish that intensifies colours and enhances your drawing.

After having used the blender pen over a piece of art, when tilting the artwork and allowing the light hit the image at a certain angle, you can see where you applied every mark as it shows as a sheen over the top. When using a solvent on dark paper, it melts a little of the pigment and this can make the area look dark until it dries. Before you use your pencil blender, you may need to wipe the nib across a spare sheet of paper to remove any excess colour off from the last area you blended or you may end up muddying your colours. You can see a slight difference in the before (left) and after (right) images and the pen did smooth the skin out much more than having simply blended with just wax pencils ( Caran Dache Luminance range), but it was minimal to the other trials I did found below. Burnishers - Use over colour to create a burnish (or shine) without changing colour of your artwork. Over saturation can create 'clumping' and scratch away top layers of colour, leaving behind dust that need to be brushed from the paper.
