In this article, we are reviewing and looking closer at the Orient Symphony and what it has to offer. But to get a better understanding of what this model, has to offer, let’s look at Orient’s own words about it. What makes the classic Orient Bambino model great – and for the most part, Orient watches in general – is an attention to detail and quality not typically found at this price point. The Orient Bambino’s Mad Men-worthy retro look and 41mm case diameter make it appealing to contemporary tastes: it feels classy yet not wimpy on the wrist. Its minimal dial, dauphine hands, and sculptural metal indices for hour markers feels modern and classic enough to work in a lot of environments. The period-correct domed crystal – a difficult feature to achieve in an affordable watch – enhances the retro vibe. But the Bambino isn’t the only story when it comes to Orient’s dress offerings.

Unfortunately, while Orient certainly achieved the classical aesthetic they were going for, the overall look is more on the “ho-hum” side of handsome. The Arabic numerals are too big, taking a face that could have looked discreet and minimal and instead making it look crowded. There is also a date window at the right for some functionality which is very beneficial, especially for those wanting to use this watch to work. When I reviewed the Bambino I complained that the strap wasn’t as comfortable as I’d like it to have been. Happily, the Symphony’s strap feels softer and more luxurious. It’s lightweight and comfortable to wear for hours at a time.

The Bambino has a very domed mineral crystal, which looks great to look at. There are also some difference in the dial design but the difference in watch crystal form is the most obvious between these two lovely watches. This watch sits pretty comfortably on my 6.5-inch (16.5cm) wrist, but I plan on moving on from it soon. Its a simple and clean design but sometimes it feels too sterile, too minimal. I think Orient could have included a more sophisticated chapter ring and/or utilized different hands and markers. Perhaps a seconds hand with a more interesting counterbalance design would give this watch more emotion. Nevertheless, these issues are small and subjective for a watch built to this price point. The mineral crystal is perfectly flat and is raised half a millimeter above the case. The dial looks recessed with an inhwardly-sloping rim. The hour markers are printed on the dial and appear to be well done.

The case of this gorgeous watch has an average diameter of 41 mm, with a thin profile of 12 mm. The Orient Symphony also has small short lugs, which will keep the watch short. Aside from so-called missed opportunities, the brown crocodile-grain leather strap pairs well with the dial. Orient wisely decided to endow the Symphony with 22mm lugs, so you can swap said strap out easily enough if you want to. The Orient Symphony is a highly popular model from Orient. The latest iteration of this version is the Symphony III, which refers to the third generation of the Symphony. Orient consistently makes upgrades and improvements to its models, which leads to a new version. But overall, the design tends to remain mostly the same. Because after all, why change a winning concept?
