The 3DR is easy to control in the air via the remote controller and the majority of the camera work is controlled via the mobile app which means you have a dual screen controller and less clutter on the controller itself which we all loved. We will talk more about the camera in the camera section of the 3DR Solo review. As already stated, the Solo does not have collision avoidance as standard so you do have to be aware of your surroundings. Given the weight of the drone you could do someone serious harm if it were to fall on someone from height so whilst the build quality is great, it might not be so great if you were to hit someone with it – for their sake more than for the drone’s sake. The 240fps 720p mode is reasonably impressive, although iPhone 6 owners will be used to this shooting speed. Quality is decent, considering that the shutter has to run at 1/240th, although the image is very soft. Sundry non-ProTune features include Auto Low Light, which adjusts shutter and frame rate to maintain brightness. You can also capture night photos with a shutter open time of up to 2 seconds in auto mode, or for preset times up to 30 seconds. With no LCD preview, however, it will take a little trial and error to get this right. In addition to control over ISO, exposure, and metering, ProTune gives you a couple of different color settings. There's a flat Log profile that you can shoot in when you're planning on performing color correction during editing—it gives you the most latitude to adjust contrast, exposure, and the like. If you simply want to cut footage together without worrying about color correction, leave the default GoPro Color setting enabled.

The shooting options don’t end here either. SuperView mode provides a wider – but more distorted – angle of vision in 4K, 2.7K, 1080p and 720p. You can also take 12-megapixel photos, and time-lapse photos at the same time as shooting video at 1,440p, 1,080p, and 720p. There are burst photo modes of up to 30 shots per second, for up to six seconds at a time.
