Ito’s art is first rate as always, even if his character designs get recycled from book to book - the woman with the full-body tattoo and some of the decayed ghosts look incredible and grotesque. Clever, atmospheric, and beautifully creepy, “Lovesickness” highlights Ito’s conceptual genius, his ability to squeeze seemingly endless permutations of horror from a single concept.

Ryusuke, after becoming the boy in white, tells the undead horde of spirits to go right ahead and love him, and the chaotic swarm destroys them all, finally giving the town some peace. It's a solid bit of Ito that reads a lot like a flip of his Tomie script, in more ways than one, and makes good use of lots of fog, which Ito draws better than maybe anybody. Lovesickness takes place in a town obsessed with fortune-telling, where citizens ask strangers at the crossroads what their fate will be. On the one hand, it could be that the boy at the crossroads has some dark powers that make people take their fortunes to the worst possible end, but it's also possible it's more psychological and people are taking fortunes the wrong way due to suggestion and their own will rather than magic and that they are following them to the end due to the finality of the fortunes in the town's custom. What starts as an innocent game of fortune telling by the crossroads takes a turn for the horrific when an evil entity disguised as a bewitchingly handsome boy begins telling cursed fortunes that lead people to unfortunate dooms.Reishi appears and continues to moan for her Bishounen, but Ryuusuke ends up convincing her that he's not the Bishounen and to go rest in peace, to which she does. The other short stories included are more disturbing than creepy but round out a very good horror collection. Next up in this collection are the two Strange Hikizuri Siblings stories, Narumi’s Boyfriend and The Séance. However, since the Intersection Bishounen is tall and wears black shirts, plus has earrings, which Ryuusuke doesn't have, he drops the matter. He is seemingly killed by the ghosts of the girls who played the game and the Intersection Bishounen, but in the end, he becomes the White-Clothed Pretty Boy, who spreads happiness to girls playing the game.

Ryuusuke rationalizes that the woman he met back then had a mental breakdown and resorted to intersection fortune telling as a way to solve her problem. Before it's official English release, it was completely scanlated by fans, with the title Undying Love. Even Evil Has Standards: Before Ryusuke goes to confront the undead girls, he encounters the married man that indirectly caused all his misery by knocking up Midori's aunt while still married. Some girls mention that ten years before, a woman killed herself after playing Intersection Fortune Telling. Finally three unrelated stories - The mansion of phantom pain and the rib woman easily being the highlight of the entire volume.When he stops in front of her, Reishi asks him for advice on the situation with Midori and Ryuusuke. I liked it, and the illustrations are, of course, great, but it’s not satisfying, nor is it the author’s most innovative work. Apart from the ghastly, convincingly-drawn deaths, the book projects an effective atmosphere of creeping fear as the town's inhabitants become less and less human, and more and more bizarre things begin to happen. The majority, who are told they will never have love, become obsessed with their crushes until a final rejection pushes them to kill themselves. A traumatized Teshima runs back to Ryuusuke's place and tells him everything, and begins to question Ryuusuke whether he's unconsciously materializing as the Intersection Bishounen.
