So, with this reboot, we would bid Raimi adieu, along with Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco ( "sooo good"), the late Cliff Robertson, three shades of Bruce Campbell, and the perfectly cast Rosemary Harris and J.K. Simmons. Usurping the iconic Raimi and his wealth of experience would come a man with only one feature film credit to his name, as Marc Webb was selected after his work on the romantic-comedy '(500) Days of Summer.' Real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone would replace the somewhat hammy, over-the-top (and somewhat over-aged for their roles) Maguire and Dunst, and Rhys Ifans would get the role Baker had been primed for. I can't say that I was exactly excited to see the finished product, and it took me some time to get used to this new image, especially after years and years of repeat viewings of the original trilogy. Marc Webb has instead used Gwen Stacey as Peter's love interest in his adaptation, played very service-ably by Emma Stone, and to be honest the chemistry between Stone and Garfield is much better than that between Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, who played Spiderman and MJW respectively in the Sam Raimi films.

There’s also the rush and thrill of the action sequences which are big, brash and over-the-top in a comic-book way. And while the film’s tone is erratic, when it works the film is fun. The overall tone of the film is a bit funnier than the last one but does in the last act turn quite sinister and affecting.

Fine detail is superb. You can count (if you really want to) all the small hexagons that make up (much improved) Spider-Man suit, as well as the texture and details on clothes and faces, whether it’s the amount of stubble on Garfield’s face or the spot above DeHaan’s eyebrow. The 4K disc really does reveal new details. There are holes in the script and story, but they are not that noticeable, and it can get a bit clichéd at times, but these things are to be expected in a big budget film such as this; however they can also be forgiven. The Amazing Spider-Man' works, it really does. When the film begins, we're introduced to a young Peter and his parents for the briefest of moments, to establish loss, and really drive home his living situation with Aunt May and Uncle Ben. From here, we have the outcast rather than the nerd, and establish his awkward relationship of sorts with Gwen Stacy (Stone), which directly ties in to the Oscorp segment that puts the film in motion. This film, unlike the 2002 version, seeks to keep Peter Parker in high school, as the innocence of the character, his naivety and euphoria over being "born again," as it were, works far better as a dependent minor than as an adult making his way in the big city all by his lonesome. While segments like the humiliation of Flash Thompson (Chris Zylka) are present in a different fashion, we're mostly given a different Peter, one that younger audiences can relate to more. More specifically, he doesn't spout out dialogue that sounds like it's straight out of 'Pleasantville.' Become the Amazing Spider-Man in this open-world 3D adventure full of crime-fighting, web-slinging, and non-stop action as you face the web-slinger’s greatest challenge yet! What is the use of a desktop wallpaper? Well, adding a wallpaper to your desktop is not mandatory. In fact, you can decide to use a dark colour, and life will move on as usual. However, this element comes with a sense of beauty. They add glamor to your computer and make it look aesthetically appealing and highly presentable. Sometimes, people display their feelings through the use of desktop wallpapers. Interesting, huh? You can add an image that shows how you feel or one that means something to you. Adding a quote will act as a reminder of what inspires you in your day-to-day life. That said, desktop wallpapers cannot be ignored, they mean different things to different people. What's really interesting about 'The Amazing Spider-Man' is the way it makes Connors a character that we come to know and understand, more than we do Uncle Ben in his limited time. This seems awkward, but I felt it made more sense, since the 2002 iteration seemed like it was a film divided into distinct chapters, rather than maintaining a steady flow and story. We don't have lengthy transformation sequences for the villain, as story is the focus rather than effects, and it works, helping keep this extraordinary story grounded in realism rather than going off the fantasy deep end. The villain, who seems like a bit of the ol' Jekyll and Hyde, is one we care for, and his path mirrors Parker's from loss to gain, though it is twisted in a more tragic manner.This film is not without its flaws, and I don’t think this is a better entry than the first one, but when it does hit a nerve, it hits it out of the park, out of the city, out of state. The characters are likable, and you find yourself caring about the trials and tragedies that befall them. It’s a fun movie to watch, and it satisfies in having something to say along with all the spectacle. But for a few missteps, a superior sequel this might have been, but as it stands The Amazing Spider-man 2 is a worthy entry into a progressing narrative. Intense combo-focused crime fighting! Defeat Spider-Man’s greatest enemies – from street thugs to super villains such as Electro and Venom – with crazy acrobatic fighting styles! Dr. Connors wants to create a world without weakness and, in doing so, discovers a way for humans to regenerate missing limbs through studies in cross-species genetics. Here, sneaking into Oscorp, Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider and … well … you know the rest. He becomes Spider-Man. Connors becomes The Lizard. With a playful sense of humor, Webb examines the daily life of a teenager suddenly granted powers that are certainly unnatural. This time, though, the writers give Parker the comic book-approved web shooters which should please the fans as he takes to the rooftops and fights crime. Peter supplies Conners with the equation, and following pressure from his boss at Oscorp tests the formula on himself. Of course it has unintentional side effects, and as well as repairing his lost arm, turns him into a giant lizard who then wreaks havoc throughout New York; as well as trying to turn everyone else in the city into creatures like himself. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed The Amazing Spiderman, and am looking forward to the next installment of Marc Webb's version, which at this stage will see Jamie Foxx playing the villain Electro and is due out in 2014.

There’s nuance in the audio as well, the smaller, quieter sounds adding density to the soundfield and bringing a scene to life in a very convincing manner. What isn’t as consistent is characterization, with DeHaan’s new rather demonic Harry Osbourne being at the better end of the scale, and Foxx’s Electro coming off the worst. Harry is a tragic figure with a massive chip on his shoulder that becomes dangerous; it accomplishes in one film what Raimi took three to do, and it does it better. Foxx’s character is pretty clichéd, a modern Frankenstein’s monster, but his transformation was far too simplistic and stereotypical for my taste; as a villain he’s imposing, how he becomes the villain doesn’t work. The Peter and Gwen romance is funny, engaging and their ups and down are compelling. More is built upon from the first movie about Peter’s parents and why they left. All the relationship moments for Garfield with both Stone and Field are heart-warming and really hammer home his confliction in letting them be close to him. The Amazing Spider-Man' came about for all the wrong reasons (the fear of the property being reabsorbed into Marvel's cinematic universe, wrestled away from Sony), but proves to be just the right kind of film for the character. I'm more than a little dismayed at how poor an Aunt May Sally Fields proves to be, but the rest of the cast really do sell their performances and characters, in some cases making us forget all about the past films. By the time the film ended, I found myself thankful rather than upset with losing Maguire's somewhat dopey Peter Parker and the prospect of a film featuring Baker as the lead villain, as Garfield and Ifans truly embody the characters. I'm now anxious for 2014, even if it means I have to stare at Garfield's ridiculous hair again for two hours. This reboot was worth it, and I can't believe I'm saying that.Gone also was The Daily Bugle, J Jonah Jameson and Mary Jane Watson, and although they will all return in The Amazing Spiderman 2, due out in 2014, I did miss the rantings of JJJ, portrayed so wonderfully well by J. K. Simmons in the previous version. Some of the talented cast are wasted (Felicity Jones, BJ Novak) and some never even made the final film (Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane Watson). That said, the cast are worth watching, especially the chemistry between Garfield and Stone.
