Layering is more consistent in s12 pro balanced with bass punches that are so controlled and rounded (corners). s12’s were not that tasty. As far as possible, the Talos will be used in solely planar mode, so as to compare apples to oranges. BAs, single DDs, hybrids, and other driver types are omitted, as the different transducers have their own pros and cons. Will the Talos automaton guardian prevail against their planar nemeses? Vs. LETSHOUER S12 Pro Treble - instruments are clear and concise, accurate yet not sibilant, cymbals and high hats are good and can be heard in their respective area. The S12 Pro also carries the moniker “6th anniversary edition”, and for those who somehow don’t know, it is a Planar driven iem which followed the original * S12* as well as the ‘Zeos tuned’ Z12. All of which have the same build, same shell. However from what I have gathered, some of the internals have been upgraded (more on that later). There has also been some minimal tweaks to the tuning and some paint and accessory changes. I find the KZ PR1 Pro to be very easy to drive. Even when I use it with the passive dongle (dongle that has no dac chip in it), I can still easily reach enjoyable volume. But of course, the PR1 Pro benefits from a better source. Although I don’t have many dongles to test it with, I find the PR1 Pro to have good synergy with the 7hz 71 due to its smooth presentation. The Hiby FC4, as good as it is, makes the PR1 Pro a little bit too harsh or too analytical than it already is. It’s not a deal breaker nor it is something very noticeable, just something to note by.

Before I even start this review, let me first say sorry for my broken English and grammatical mistakes.

The sub-bass on the P1 MAX rolls a little earlier while the bass is leaner and drier sounding but with a touch of extra control and clarity compared to the S12 PRO which is fuller and weightier but more hollow and looser. The 8 core braided silver plated cable seems to pair well with the IEM, feel on cable is soft and flexible, good to the touch. Positioning & Separation : You can easily pinpoint any instrument / foot steps if you're into gaming (tested on Valorant) with this set. This applies for most countries. However, large items such as headphones and desktop DAC/AMPs (e.g. HarmonicDyne G200, MUSICIAN MDP-2, and etc.) are excluded. S12 Pro’s aluminum chassis is shaped to have a snug fit in the concha. The finishing is smooth to the touch thanks to the five-axis CNC machining process. It’s strong, touch and without sharp edges. The chassis comes in a minimalistic profile, with not a lot of wiggle room within the acoustic chamber to minimize reverberation. Dual-pin receptacle is a separate piece protruded from the faceplate so that the irregular shape would not cause distortion.

The soundstage is wide due to the sense of airiness brought by the treble. It has sufficient sense of depth and height to it. Imaging are good, you can easily pinpoint and visualize all the instruments here and there. Detail retrieval and resolution is also good. I have no complain regarding the technicalities of the PR1 Pro. It’s not the best I’ve heard, but for the price it is up there among the best.There is plenty of harmonic wealth and realism, the timbre is natural and colorful with great chromatic variety, you can hear the uniqueness of every singer’s voice and single instrument. The Talos are no slouch in timbre, but of the planar challengers, the Zetian Wu have the best timbral accuracy of the lot. I don’t know if the vents on the faceplate are for aesthetic only, or do they actually have some purpose regarding the tuning.

DUNU is one of the most reputable Chi-Fi brands and has manufactured and developed earphones since 2003, including OEM/ODM products for other audio companies. The KZ PR1 Pro’s housing is made from two clear acrylic pieces with an aluminum faceplate, all sandwiched into each other using glue. The durability of these type of construction is questionable, time will tell. However, as of right now, the iem seem to be sturdy enough. The cavity base part feels smooth with no rough edge to it. The S12P are downright striking in appearance. A very simple yet also beautifully designed earphone all the way around. Colored in a matte finish is this navy blue colorway with hints of purple hues which appears bold, distinguished and regal. Accenting the gorgeous paint job is a protruding small rectangle housing where the female 2-pin connector is located with a beveled strip of shiny silver outlining it, which adds such a distinct contrast to the confident looking shells. I have the hardest time deciding if there is bluer than purple, or more purple than blue?The Stellaris are much harder to drive. Tonality aside, the Stellaris’ sub-optimal fit may be a deal-breaker. The heavy shells and lengthy nozzles can cause comfort and fit issues for users. Multiple vent holes on both sides are effective in alleviating negative pressure build up within the ear canal and thus protecting your hearing. Mids - female and male vocals are very enjoyable on this set, delivery is clean, clear and concise voice. Brightness and tonality is just right. female vocals will sound better for this set especially, on my preference for audiophile female singers. The clarity of the Hook-X shows up cleaner and more transparent then the S12P to my ears. This goes for male vocals as well as females. Details are more easily heard on the Hook-X with a more heightened and airy sound, but also a less natural timbre to my ears. The midrange sounds more forward on the Hook-X to me with more shimmery resplendance to females vocals. I don’t hear anything really glaring as a definitive con, except on rare occasions there is the faintest bit of planar timbre peeking through. This is also induced by my brain concentrating and listening for it. That being said I think females have a nicely positioned and energetic sound which is capped by a smooth delivery.

BUT, there’re some saving graces for the treble. The treble’s overall presentation of the PR1 Pro is very smooth. There isn’t any weird dips or peak that makes the overall timbre sounds unnatural. Also, the high density foam tips that they provide seems to tame down the harshness of the treble, so it’s a good thing that they opted for foam tips. Who is this set NOT for? If you’re treble sensitive or if you like a more neutral type of tuning, this set is not for you. Or if you’re searching for something that has the most natural timbre or some mid-centric type of tuning, this set is also not for you. I love the design of this set. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t twist them around in my hands looking at them from different angles. The Matte finish is the perfect finish, and the choice of aluminum is as much sturdy as it is light. Whoever took part in the design should get a raise… Letshuoer let’s make that happen. Build

The S12 Pro are tuned to a deeper V-shape. They have bigger bass and sound more “fun,” though the bass isn’t as tight and textured as on the Talos and can bleed into the midrange. Sound signature: I’d say the the PR1 Pro has a balance tuning with a hefty bass and treble boost. It’s not exactly pure V-shaped because I didn’t find the mids to be too recessed, but more on that later. It has a balanced, reference type tuning with plenty of musicality and good technicalities while it is lightweight, comfortable and it comes with a modular cable and a carrying case.
