Glancing at the layout of the seventy-four keys of the main section of a keyboard, we see an easily readable font used, and other than the HyperX logo on the space bar, there is little to distract you. For more on the NGenuity software you can refer back to the HyperX Alloy Elite keyboard review here. I have to admit that this methodology may not be 100% accurate but it does give a good idea on what you can expect from each model since aside the type of switches used keycaps and keyboard material also matter. And now the unassuming Alloy FPS has received an upgrade, finally getting the full RGB-backlight treatment and new switches. However, when playing PUBG, we also noticed the ugly side of having a keyboard with soft springs and short throw.First of all, spacebar feels horrible, there’s a lot of rattling and you can hear it while pressing the key, it feels really cheap and I’m guessing it’s due to the stabilizers, the stabs used on this board are of a very questionable quality and are nowhere near where I imagine other keyboards are, other keys with stabilizers suffer from the exact same issues. The polling rate is 1000Hz by default, Anti-ghosting is built in, as well as NKRO support, all right out of the box. We are used to much stronger springs in the switches we use day to day, and with little force required to actuate the switches, and the travel distance cut shorter than most, we were able to dodge plasm balls and whatever else is flung our way.

The keyboard itself will look familiar to people familiar with HyperX keyboard offerings, especially given it is a full-size keyboard in a completely black color scheme and minimalist design based off the Alloy FPS out of the box. For instance, keyboards with Cherry MX-style switches are all forced to deal with the same backlight problem: To compensate for the “stem” design of the switch, the LED is offset above it. Its compact TKL design frees up space for mouse movement in desktop setups where space is at a premium, and it also features a detachable USB-C cable for supreme portability.

The HyperX Alloy FPS RGB and the HyperX Alloy Elite 2 perform very similarly and are both remarkable choices for gaming. The FPS RGB uses linear Kailh Silver Speed switches, which have an even lower pre-travel distance, giving it a very responsive feel that’s great for gaming, but may lead to more typos.

The HyperX has onboard memory to save your preferred settings, and all of its keys are macro-programmable. Multimedia” lets you turn any key into a media key, in case hitting FN+ F11 to turn up the volume mid-game is too much of a hassle. These key switches have exposed LEDs for stunning lighting with an actuation force and travel distance elegantly balanced for responsiveness and accuracy. HyperX gear is the choice of pro gamers, tech enthusiasts, and overclockers worldwide because it meets the most stringent product specifications and is built with best-in-class components.If you prefer a smaller model, the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro is a TKL keyboard, but it has a single red color backlight instead of RGB.

There is a subtle chamfer along the keyboard’s edges, which looks good and is comfier to rest your fingers on than a boxier design. Alloy Origins Core is built with a full aluminum body so it stays rigid and stable when keystrokes are flying, and also features keyboard feet that let you choose from three different tilt levels.There is also a Sonix SLED1734 dedicated LED driver capable of running as many as 256 LEDs or 75 RGB LEDs, including adding support for some specific lighting effects. Finally, size and other features like aluminum top plates, extra macro keys, dedicated media buttons and removable wrist rests also matter but to a lesser degree than the above. The HyperX Alloy FPS RGB is an outstanding gaming keyboard that feels very well-built, with an aluminum plate on top and small, grippy feet to prevent it from sliding around. So, leaving out the per-key RGB illumination (7 effects with 5 brightness levels) for the keys thanks to the Kailh Silver Speed switches everything else pretty much remains identical to the original Alloy FPS including the steel frame, N-Key / 6-Key rollover, 100% anti-ghosting, 1000MHz polling rate, detachable braided cable and even a USB port which can be used to charge mobile/portable devices. Below the image we see that Alt+Tab, Alt+F4, even Shift+Tab can also be locked making it nearly impossible to accidentally leave the game.
