Loading System: Just as diverse as NERF’s wide range of firing mechanisms is the brand’s array of loading systems. Sadly, the Turbine shares this feature. Which is a shame, because otherwise, it might be the best of the line so far. Even so, it may have some mod potential if you manage to open the shell. Weapon Style: As briefly touched on directly above, modern NERF Blasters come in a humongous variety of different shapes and sizes, from pistols to compact SMG-style items to snipers to NERF-style assault rifles — all of which have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. There are also non-traditional NERF Blasters such as the brand’s Gelfire lineup.

Elite 2.0, as its name suggests, is a spiritual successor to the 2012 N-Strike Elite series. Its blasters feature a similar design to those seen in later releases of N-Strike Elite, with the exception that the blasters are now teal and orange in color, rather than blue and orange. Most blasters include double their intended firing capacity worth of darts. Firing Mechanism: For years, pretty much every NERF Blaster was fired using a traditional trigger setup, though in more recent years the Hasbro-owned outfit has introduced a variety of lesser-conventional Blasters that sport a myriad of different firing mechanism configurations. In terms of aesthetics, you’re going to love the aggressive look or hate it. I haven’t found many people in that middle ground. I do like the look…but that’s very subjective.Let’s be honest – the Elite 2.0 line hasn’t had the best start. Hasbro may have opted for easy-to-manufacture blasters, but doing so resulted in some nasty compromises. The blasters still perform well, but some of them ( like the Phoenix) have things like painful mag releases. The number code system for Elite 2.0 closely resembles that of the Alpha Strike series, rather than N-Strike's system. The Flipshots sub-series features blasters that have a "flipping" mechanic that allows the user to switch between two sets of barrels of darts.

The Turbine can be considered a mix between the RapidStrike CS-18 and the HyperFire, due to having the HyperFire's rate of fire with its ergonomic feel more reminiscent of the RapidStrike's. Initial reception to Elite 2.0 was very mixed. While the inclusion of additional darts, an abundance of accessory attachment points, and the overall ergonomics of Elite 2.0 blasters have been praised, the changes to how the blasters are assembled have been highly criticized. Many of the first Elite 2.0 blasters were assembled in a way that makes modification and repairs difficult. While blasters are still held together by standard screws and/or pressure clips, as introduced in the Alpha Strike line of blasters, many others are also ultrasonically or solvent-welded together. The quality of the plastic used in production has also been called "thin", compared to previous or other releases, and some parts such as jam doors can be easily snapped off. Additionally, many of the metal springs in blasters have been replaced with plastic leaf springs, which are less strong and can break after long periods of time. The Turbine does have some hope. There are just a few screws. Careful application of plastic prying tools (found at the hardware store) will then let you separate the shell and undo most of the clips. My blaster had four structural posts and one clip solvent-welded together. I was able to pry the shell open enough to use a thin blade to slice through them. A thin saw or a rotary tool might also work, if prying doesn’t pop them open.However, things start to go downhill from there. The flimsy jam door from the Phoenix is here, as well. The triggers, due to their use of plastic leaf springs, feel off – it’s like there’s a metaphorical hill to climb over before the switches engage. Even worse, it’s actually painful to use the magazine release. It hurts your index finger to press forward, and that kind of kills it in terms of user friendliness. I realize Hasbro wants blasters they can assemble cheaply and easily, but these things were poor choices. Performance Interestingly, despite being a follow-up to N-Strike Elite, the word "N-Strike" is not present in Elite 2.0's name.
