The audio version is read by Jonathan Keeble who skillfully uses a variety of British accents and really knows how to increase the creep and suspense factor by adjusting the speed of the narration or inserting a brief pause. And then the killer strikes again, and Cody realises the threat isn't to the people of Liverpool after all - Throughout the book, Jackson takes us on an affectionate but not completely misty-eyed, trip through the familiar streets of his native city, and the city takes a role as a separate character in the book. I thought he was really weird to start with until his personal demons were explained but I'm not sure the story benefited from that delay.

She spends her days juggling mom-life, reading, blogging, planning date nights with her husband and working as a nurse. A Tapping At My Door is a spellbinding and spine chilling read that had me literally on the edge of my seat.I struggled with this for a couple of hours but had to give in - couldn't bear the Liverpool accent adopted by the otherwise excellent Mr. The fact that Megan Webley is now engaged to someone else just ups the potential for problems and while I’m not saying there are none, the author is rightly restrained in keeping the personal life on the fringes of the action allowing the fabulous, and it is outstanding, plot to take centre stage.

It’s that time of year ago when I’ve been reading and not reviewing – spending more time gardening as the grass grows so quickly and the weeds multiply. I thought this was excellent on all fronts - tho would agree with a couple of other reviewers that the end could have been a little better. There is one other Liverpool landmark I’d like to talk about, but can’t, as it plays a key role in the novel’s finale. Further to the key theme of this particular case, there is the personal trauma and coping mechanisms of DS Nathan Cody himself that begin to become unraveled over the course of the book leaving me excited to pick up the next in the series to know more about Cody and what will happen next in his personal journey. Aspects were very dark and gruesome but never beyond what I felt I could cope with, unlike The Snowman by Jo Nesbø.It’s obvious that something had gone wrong whilst he was working undercover, which had affected him very badly. But I read detective novels solely for the detective mystery and police procedurals Every fictional detective are molded from the same template. At its bottom end is the famous Adelphi Hotel, and the car park behind this forms another location for the book. I don't know what made my ears bleed more - the awful cardboard characters or the ridiculous mystery behind it all. Although, I’m giving it 4 stars I am not at all sure I’ll read any more of the books in this series, but if you have a stronger stomach than me you’ll probably love them.

My writing influences include Ed McBain, Dennis Lehane, George Pelecanos, Robert Crais, Michael Connelly and Harlan Coben, amongst many others. Scared, she opens the door to find a large raven and then things get seriously creepy as she realises the raven is not alone. In the main, the chapters featuring the murderer give little detail, except for their obsession with birds.Next we meet DS Nathan Cody at work in the Major Investigation Team who has just found out one of his old girlfriends has joined the team, even better they are to be partners – now that’s not awkward is it? Full disclosure - I'll happily watch some derivative, third-rate procedural, but if I spend my time on reading, I expect it to be at least of Simenon standard. Intelligently plotted and very well written, DS Nathan Cody, DC Megan Webley and their boss, DCI Stella Blunt, could easily establish themselves as one of my favorite police procedural teams. It is an engrossing read with a detailed story that the author wraps up beautifully with a rather unexpected explanation.

Not only was the murder investigation really good, and kept me on the edge of my seat, I also really loved getting to know the main character Cody.I so wish it was possible to discuss what happened in this story because that last third especially just needs talking about. This is full of action and interesting characters that I am sure will only get better in future books.
