And by being ‘just’ a retelling of Disney’s story, the author didn’t have to come up with her own characters or world-building, instead she just piggy-backed on people’s childhood nostalgia – and utterly failed. We learn about the kingdom before, at a time when magic was still present, as well as about the Beast's parents and their unkind rule over their people. If you love the original animated Beauty and the Beast as much as I do, you should definitely give this one a try! And to top her arrogance off, she thinks that she’s way too good for the Beast, instead he should set his hopes for some” nice peasant girl”.

Following the parameters of a fairly strict retelling, this story feels like bonus content for the original animated movie. Dust Jackets are not guaranteed and when still present, they will have various degrees of tear and damage.I went into it thinking it was probably going to be more than a little bit cheesy and terrible, but that wasn't the case at all. When Belle touches the Beast's enchanted rose, memories flood through Belle's mind-memories of a mother she thought she would never see again. Note, I had to wonder how it was possible to regurgitate an eighty minute movie’s script in 400 pages but oh-the twist, oh the twist is that we’ll include Maurice’s romance with Belle’s mother who’s the Enchantress. If you think about it, a ten-year-old boy who has no parents and obviously learned from fairy tales to distrust haggard looking, old women should definitely not let the obviously-evil witch into his home!

Because, one thing of all the other reason I like this story, is about how people see the real beauty.When Belle realizes what has happened and what her own mother did (seriously who curses a 11 year old boy) she wants to do what she can to help the Beast and the enchanted servants.

I feel bad for all you Potts/Maurice shippers that’s for sure (surely, there have to be some) As for me, I am not planning on touching this series with a ten foot pole ever again. Seriously, who reads or watches Beauty and the Beast and wonders, "Man, I wish I knew more about Maurice. The structure of the book itself flips back and forth between Maurice’s story and Belle’s story (or from the past to the present and back again) so if you’re the type of person who has trouble following stories that do that or just simply doesn’t like the format that way, maybe this might not be a book for you. Between the two YA series Disney publishes, I still prefer Serena Valentino's Disney Villan series but this book has secured the fact that I am officially a fan of the Twisted Tales series too. Nowhere do we get a sense of that self-sacrificing nature; instead we have a Belle who perhaps deserves her own curse. As a huge bookworm, and also a huge Disney fan I hope to collect ALL of the Disney books from the Villans’ Series, the Kingdom Keepers, and the Disney Twisted Tales (which this book is a part of. In the end, Belle's mother is weakened so much that she can either revert the servants to their human forms or make the Beast human alone.
