Games Workshop tweaked how Bloodthirsters work in the new book and upped their points cost to 310 each. You can make them Exalted which can add either 20, 35, or 40 points depending on which option you choose.

Learn more First off, the Chaos Space Marines look great, their overall aesthetic hasn’t changed much over the years and it hasn’t needed to. They’re an imposing force to deal with, much like their Space Marine kin, but with some extra cruelty mixed in for good measure. Let’s pretend you’re going with Abaddon (which you could swap out for a Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour and maybe another 5 Terminators instead). That’s 500-ish points before wargear. After the traitors’ defeat and the Emperor’s ascension to the Golden Throne, the World Eaters retreated to the eye of terror. Angron was lost entirely to rage, but charismatic and lethal captains such as Khârn of the eighth company held the fighting force together. On the daemon iceworld of Skalathrax madness finally claimed Khârn entirely, earning him the moniker of betrayer – from then on, the legion shattered into myriad warbands. Even one such warband is a world-shattering threat.v It looks like there may be some value in the new Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol; here is our price breakdown and review of the box. We got so excited about Combat Patrol that we couldn’t help but come up with a few army lists, all coming in at around a Power Level of 25. We’re starting with a couple that you can make with the models in the new Indomitus boxed set . Indomitus NecronsWell, we can drop 1 Bloodmaster and save 90 points. That’s going to free us up to turn our Bloodthirster into an Exalted version. We’re going with the 40 point option because we have the points now. That gives us another 50 points to play with (well, 60 technically). Why not take a Skull Altar? No self-respecting Chaos Space Marines force is complete without at least one squad of Legionaries. These are the dark mirrors of loyalist Tactical Squads, with access to a variety of wargear and a host of unique weapons that make them more flexible – and violent – than uniform Intercessor Squads.* Finally if you want to bring anything from the Forge World library of Chaos models, such as the Kytan Ravager, Blood Slaughterer of Khorne, or the Hellforged dreadnoughts, you need this book. There’s some cool stuff in there, but it’s not a book that you absolutely need – you can run a perfectly great Chaos army using just the units in the Codex. War Zone Charadon Act II: The Book of Fire Chaos Space Marines are former servants of the Imperium who have turned to Chaos. They can be either members of the original 20 first founding legions or renegades, recently turned through violent rebellion. Some of them openly worship the Chaos powers and have dedicated their mortal lives to pleasing a particular god, while others don’t care for The Great Game and instead are just here to destroy the Imperium and hurt people. Often, chaos legions will ride into battle alongside daemons, or with the support of the great towering war machines who have also turned traitor – Chaos Knights. Either way, the goal is simple: Despoil the galaxy and claim it, either for the Ruinous Powers or your own purposes.

It’s nice he works with pretty much everything in the box. Overall, a decent battleforce but we’ll have to see how everything works together in the new codex book just to be sure! New Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol: Price & Value The Outriders give you speed, and the Bladeguard Veterans give you a real punch in combat. Support their assault by charging your Assault Intercessors at the same time, and give everything buffs from the aura abilities of your Primaris Lieutenant and Bladeguard Ancient. World Eaters tactics are beautifully, brutally simple – run towards your enemy, and put an axe in their face. TheRage-Fuelled Invigoration Blessing of Khorne is a good way to get this moving, granting your whole force +2″ movement. It has taken many long years – and countless sacrifices – but finally Ahriman, once the Chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons and now a sorcerer in exile, is ready to attempt the most audacious and daring feat of his long life. Combat Patrol contents

Known for their stealth tactics and use of Cultist forces seeded and outfitted ahead of their arrival, Alpha Legion work well with most units thanks to being more difficult to hit from a distance, helping them close the gaps. The rules for the Alpha Legion tend to favor versatility and subterfuge, and they have several rules that can apply to Cultists by virtue of just being INFANTRY-keyworded, though you may find they don’t necessarily want to run a ton of cultists.

Getting started with Warhammer 40,000 can be a daunting task when you first take a look at the hobby. There are so many miniatures, rules, and dyes to assemble, study, and use. It can frankly feel overwhelming. For a while now, Games Workshop, the publisher of the game, has worked on Combat Patrols, which usually consist of enough miniatures and models to create a solid 400-500-point army. Brave, honest and true, they only very occasionally indulge in macabre vampiric rituals with goblets of suspiciously viscous red ‘wine’– and it really is only once in a blue moon that one of them slips into an insane, suicidal killing frenzy fuelled by the overwhelming psychic grief imprinted in his DNA. One of the big benefits of the Emperor’s Children is the ability to take Noise Marines as troops. The good news is that Emperor’s Children Noise Marines are pretty good right now! The bad news is that there aren’t modern plastic models for Noise Marines. You’re going to want at least 10 and as many as 30 if you’re going heavy on them, and that means either doing custom conversions or buying a bunch of plastic Chaos Space Marines and adding the (ugh) Finecast Noise Marine upgrade kid weapons to them (in the photo above I used the Horus Heresy Kakophoni guns). Emperor’s Children are some of the shoot-ier Chaos Space Marines, but they’re also great in melee. It’s hard to go wrong with them. Warhammer 40K is usually played with 2,000 points, but the Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol boxes make the game far more accessible notwithstanding some minor balance complaints. Even those qualms about balance have been ironed out in the 10 th edition of the game. Combat Patrols are a viable way to get started with Warhammer 40K and get all you need in one neat box.
