I loved the idea and the story so much that I still went into Riley and Zeke’s book totally blind. I forgot the blurb almost as soon as I started reading and I’m glad. Because this book is best enjoyed if you know nothing about what is going on from the start. Riley and Zeke’s frenemies to lovers situation is both frustrating and amusing, but it’s mostly seeing how Zeke doesn’t hate Riley the way she hates him. I completely see why Riley wants to hurt and ignore Zeke, because he hurt her and I loved that it took her a long time to really come to terms with him as a person. But what I loved was their journey to get there. They go from being two people working their butts off to be part of the football team, to becoming starters on the team that end up living together on campus. I loved how Zeke was protective of her and even when she snapped and pushed at him, he stood his ground. Riley’s obviously not the only one who made a promise to Gavin and Zeke’s just following through with what he told his best friend. She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs. While I can appreciate that Kandi Steiner has a way to make her books extremely entertaining and fast to read and I would definitely recommend this book as a 'palet cleanser",it didn't personally work for me as a romance. While I could tell and recognise that Zeke and Riley were a cute couple and complimentary for each other, I didn't really care about them as individuals. Also I find the build up soo much more entertainin and enjoyable thatn the actual sex in romance ,because it really highlights the chemistry,the attraction, the yearning that the characters can't help but feel for each other (and we love yearning in this household) and also it makes it feel satisfying,like a trivial moment in the romantic development of the main couple when they do actually sleep together and that's why I don't typically enjoy friends with benefits stories and this was fiiiled with smut (which I don't loove reading so that probably contributed in why I don't love this book). It just felt like Zeke and Rileys relationship was very sex-centric (if that makes sense) and used their constant sleeping together as a replacement for an emotional development and connection between them. The third act conflict was objectively stupid, but I've come to expect that when I read romance at this point. Lastly, GAVIN FOR PRESIDENT FR, WE LOVE GAVIN Zele was a strong lovable alphahole that loved fiercely and Riley has just enough sass to keep him on his toes Riley and Zeke grew up together, and he is her brothers best friend. She had the biggest crush on him until an accident that paralysed her twin. Riley couldn't forgive him, but she made a pinky promise to Gavin to play football because he no longer could.He thinks because we grew up together that it’s his role to protect me, but all he does is get in my way, make me look weak, and piss me off more. Riley was frustrating at times. She was so mean to Zeke, but I understood where she was coming from. As a big sister, I'm very protective of my brother, so I get why she was upset. Thank God for her brother, Gavin, who helped her process through her feelings. I tell him I can handle myself, and I’m hell-bent on getting that point across to him and the rest of the nation watching the only girl in collegiate football.⁣⁣

This story surprised me in all the best ways. You have a heroine who's had to fight for her place in a men's sport. You have a hero who's struggled with so much, the obstacle between them most of all. And you have the absolute best combination of angst, banter, and humor in a way only Kandi can write it.Good but basic. There’s no plot but it’s still entertaining and tbh brother's best friend does it for me every.single.time. Zeke was the sweetest and such a golden retriever, he had me blushing the whole time. And I liked Riley, though she sometimes pissed me off when mentioned to him how ‘lazy’ he was at college and made him feel bad because of his dyslexia. Other than that all pretty good and I like the couple they make. I don’t have very much to say about this book. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t that great either. It was a little boring in my opinion, and I didn’t really feel the characters connection. I didn’t really like Riley the fmc, bc I felt like she was a little unfair, and Zeke was a little pathetic in the end in my opinion. But I did however really like Gavin who’s Riley’s brother. As if things aren’t already tough enough as the only girl on a college football team, Coach had to go and assign Zeke Collins as my roommate.
