Final tiny dot of Blue Horror . Small stipples of this on the teeth. Add a bit of White Scar here to add one final dot on the tip of the tongue only.

Because I had painted a burgundy carapace, I wanted the skin to contrast with it, and pull from colours that matched the pelagic influences on some of the new miniatures. I started with Celestra Grey , and glazed down with colours like Fenrisian Grey and The Fang , and shaded the darkest areas with Druchii Violet , to keep everything suitably menacing. Will: Custom Splinter Fleet Sitting next to Volupus Pink, but even richer, this colour comes close to the intensity of Screamer Pink, but with the unique flow of contrast. Eyes are basecoated White Scar . Wash with Hexwraith Flame mixed with a bit of Yellow Fluorescent . This can flow onto the lids for a glow effect. Establish a centre dot of white, then glaze with Yellow FluorescentLizzie: This is an incredibly versatile new shade of brown. It’s perfect for leather and cloth. This is fantastic for adding some extra grime to your Nurgle miniatures too.

On the paler end of the scale for blues and greens, the less saturated Briar Queen Chill finds itself sitting alongside Aethermatic Blue. The remaining miniatures from the box were painted up to match my existing Tyranid force. I have quite a large army of these guys already, as well as a subservient Genestealer Cult, so I’ll be dropping these straight into that collection – which actually featured in the Crusade section of the previous Tyranids codex. Emma: This colour is all about punch, it’s so bright and powerful. Doomfire Magenta straight out of the pot gives you a vivid pink for cloth or magic spells. It also suits Daughters of Khaine or Escher Gangers if you want some cool pink hair colours. When gluing, you might want to use super glue, as it sets much faster than plastic glue. Here is some advice on using superglue to achieve the best results. Put the tree sideways, attach a single branch, and let the glue set and cure completely. Then, turn the tree by 90 degrees, and attach the next branch. Work your way from top to bottom and most importantly, be patient and let the glue of each branch dry completely before you move on. I learned this the hard way, as half of my branches fell off as the glue hadn’t set yet…Follow my Green Flames Rev iii for the recipe for the flames. Always do last as you can apply some minor OSL. When it comes to Warhammer, you’ll most often find tentacles on models related to Nurgle, whether in Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40,000, though Tyranids frequently sport them as well. I love using them as base colours for large armies and glazing over layers on highly detailed miniatures for extra colour saturation. The expansion of the Contrast range with new colours gives hobbyists an amazing opportunity to try different things!

Few things make for scarier monsters than writhing masses of tentacles. Whether featured in gaping maws or hanging off the face of an eldritch horrorterror beyond all rational comprehension, tentacles are a great way to make a model look immediately gross and scary. They’re also great for adding a splash of color to models that might otherwise be dark and relatively monochrome. There’s a lot of green in Warhammer, from Salamanders and Nurgle Daemons, to Orks and orruks! Gutrippa Flesh is here to help, slotting in between Militarum Green and Plaguebearer Flesh .

Just like Mantis Warrior Green, this green ups the balance in favour of yellow, making for an eye-catching tone with a wide range of uses. Apothecary White and Gryph-charger Grey give you two blue-hued ways to shade White, but Dreadful Visage is a pale grey shade with a hint of lilac. It’s an incredibly exciting time to be a Warhammer hobbyist – the Citadel Colour range is expanding with 25 vivid and versatile new Contrast paints, the Shade range has been reformulated with a further seven new colours added, and a brand new bright white spray primer is coming! It’s a chromatic Christmas, and it’s still summer! Lizzie: A bold and brash paint with subtle darker tones, this is really versatile. Of course, it’s ideal for those Aeldari Striking Scorpions, but it’s brilliant for glazing onto eye lenses and gemstones to create glowing effects. Citadel Colour’s Volupus Pink is an acrylic paint with a smooth matt finish. It contains a high concentration of pigments, providing excellent coverage with just a thin base coat. This colour works great as a foundation for highlighting lighter pinks, and the paint is easy to use even for beginners. It is a beautiful addition to any palette and ideal for miniature painting, especially for models that require a vibrant and eye-catching appearance. What armies to paint with Volupus Pink

The unit was undercoated with White Scar Spray before being given an all over wash with Skeleton Horde which was highlighted with Flayed One Flesh. Softer, fleshier, bits between joints and the tentacles were then painted in Fireslayer Flesh Contrast paint and highlighted with Jokaero Orange . Bony carapaces, spikey bits, teeth and blades were first painted with Garaghak’s Sewer and then raised up with Catachan Flesh before a final highlight of Mournfang Brown . Lastly the compound eyes were painted with Baal Red Contrast paint, washed with Agrax Earthshade and then given a subtle dash of ‘Ardcoat gloss varnish to make them glisten. Follow up with a thin highlight of Temple Guard Blue . On the tongue, this is the chunky highlight. Stippling here looks quite effective.Tidy up anything on the skin as needed, but you can get away with a bit of sloppiness due to the organic nature of the model. I then highlighted the skin with pure Deepkin Flesh. You’ll notice I went and painted all the skin before touching the tentacles. This wasn’t by accident. Tentacles are often an accent that you want to pop and stand out drastically from the rest of your scheme, as such getting an idea of what the other colors that will be present on the model gives you an idea of what will pop next to it. In this situation, since I’m painting with yellowish bone armor and reddish hues in the skin, I wanted something closer to purple and blue. Green would probably have worked here too, but I wanted to accent the skin with that color later. Genestealer Purple: Purple is a complementary color to pink, which means they pair well together. Genestealer Purple is a dark, rich purple that can be used as a shadow or to create a gradient effect with Volupus Pink.
