Awesome McCoolname: Most of the people in the magical world. Justified as they choose their own names. In July 2016, Derek Landy announced via a video blog that, although the Skulduggery Pleasant series was complete, the series as a whole was still set to continue with a sequel series. The first book of this sequel was released in June 2017, titled Resurrection. [2] While nine books were planned, the series was cut down to six books by HarperCollins after the publication of Seasons of War. The final book, Until the End, was released in April 2022. [3] In October 2022, Landy announced via YouTube livestream that a "one-off prequel" and "Book 0·1", Hell Breaks Loose, would release in March 2023. [4] Dark Days and Mortal Coil are the only books to be released within the same year (2010). However, the novellas were released in the years 2012 - 2014 a few months before the main books were.

Derek has also started writing a number of feature-length novellas, starting with The End of the World in February 2012. The Maleficent Seven, starring Tanith Low, was released in March 2013. Armageddon-Outta-Here, a collection of every previously published short story and new content, was published July 3rd 2014. It also included a short story that manifested into a full-length novella: Get Thee Behind Me, Bubba Moon. Apocalypse Kings, another short story, was released in March 2021 for World Book Day. While Last Stand of Dead Men doesn't have a designated prologue, it has two chapters set before the events of the book.

Anathem Mire a character who appeared in The Faceless Ones and was never mentioned again, finally gets his story wrapped up. The skeleton detective teams up with his old partner Valkyrie Cain to take them on, but she remains deeply traumatised by the events of the first series. As extra help is needed they enlist new character Omen Darkly, a (very) ordinary schoolboy whose main claim to fame is that his brother is prophesied to save the world. Though Omen is keen to help, Skulduggery is wary of pulling him too deep into his dangerous world – and with good reason. After wandering through the city of Roarhaven, Skulduggery notices that Valkyrie develops headaches whenever she approaches the area where Darquesse had set off the giant explosion on Devastation Day. This area is reportedly known for causing distress in some people's minds and some Sensitives are unable to go near the place. This makes Skulduggery decide to go to Cassandra Pharos's old cottage, as he suspects that Valkyrie might have psychic abilities that may reveal themselves in the Sensitive's cottage.
