It seems like Angels of Caliban is meant to conclude the Imperium Secundus arc. Sadly, it doesn't feel that way. Vulkan Lives, The Unremembered Empire, Deathfire, Pharos, and Angels of Caliban don't feel tight in the way Horus Rising, False Gods, and Galaxy in Flames did. And that's my main problem w The Knight Households will become a faction in the game, introducing exciting new mechanics to let you pilot these formidable machines of war. Get ready for their release on 20th November! A second group pursue the Traitor Death Guard but this is only hinted at not covered. Meanwhile on Caliban treason and dissension boil over in what will become the defining feature of the Legion's history. This story shares equal billing with the Lion and is again quite well handled with a fascinating cast of quite unlikable characters.

Angels of Darkness cuts a balance between intrigue and combat. Of course, its a Space Marine book, so there's bolter porn. It's not spectacular, in my opinion, but there's the action you'd expect from such a book. It's not bad, but nothing special

Comparing to todays event's it has it pros and cons, probably the biggest of which are the planning and storyline, fatally severed in two.

The 'skull-in-hourglass' heraldry of the Dreadwing matches that of the Star Phantoms, who are suspect of being a successor of the Dark Angels, although both chapter deny this. The Calibanite nobility's life was one of constant struggle as they fought against the multitude of Great Beasts that threatened to overrun their small settlements.

Caliban is the name of a character in the Shakespearean play "The Tempest." Caliban is forced into servitude on an island ruled by Prospero the magician. Growing up alone on the deserted island, he is often depicted as a wild man, or a deformed man -- the only human inhabitant of the island that is otherwise "not honour'd with a human shape" (Prospero, I.2.283). All of this leads to what I consider the best part of the novel but be warned, spoilers follow so you might want to skip the next paragraph… There are two main plots which both involve Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplain Boreas. The first takes place in the past where Boreas is interrogating/torturing a Fallen named Astelan and is recounting his tale and Boreas is trying to make him repent. As part of the mighty Dark Angels legion, the Lion, Luther, Nemiel and Zahariel join the Great Crusade of the Emperor – a supposedly standard relief mission on the world of Sarosh. Things go awry following a plot by Chaos-corrupted Saroshi and their attempt to summon a daemon of the Dark Powers. The following information is not to be regarded as officially sanctioned and/ or is not written from an in-universe point of view. Buy victories with the expense of your wolves, not my knights.’ A further failing is that there is very little in the way of explanations or updates from smaller works. A number of audio dramas and short tales helped to explore the Dark Angels' role in this war, and without reading all of them you'll be completely lost as to what is going on. Both Zahariel and Astelan suffer badly from this thanks to a very abrupt introduction; meaning even completion may want to take a refresher course on the lore before getting into this latest book. Even if you were to do so however, you might notice that certain personality quirks don't quite line up with prior depictions, and that several characters seem to have jumped over a few steps on the road to treachery. Why the author feels the best way to lift up a protagonist is to make fools of those around him I just don’t know. The parts on Ultramar were just frustrating to read. As author told himself - 'Astelan has some delusion, but genuinely believes himself loyal to the Emperor and no other. He has a sense of superiority over non-Terrans, somewhat right in his belief that he was chosen by the Emperor himself. All loyalties and oaths to anyone lesser than the Big E have no real value. He considers - and his hatred colours this - that the Lion is a traitor. Caliban is expendable in his mission to destroy the Lion... And to top the heights of his ambiguous nature - he has a psyk-shield from the Empra himself. Try to stop that juggernaut.
