It is so thrilling and the book is unputdownable, but also it contains numerous beautiful (or just awesome) sentences. Overall, this was an enjoyable book, but I wanted it to be even darker, creepier and with more dread and suspense. I skipped this one last year after reading some mixed reviews from my GR friends, but after reading her latest, I just had to see which "side" I'd come out on! Tudor paces her story well and keeps the reader on edge, only pushing the final piece into place in time for the reader to catch their breath and end the intense novel.

Arnhill has a history of misfortune, with a failing Academy, a school where Joe has been taken on as a English teacher, a post he conned his way into. The Taking of Annie Thorne left us with some unanswered questions, but even despite that, I have to admit that I loved the end. Aside from that, the reader or shall I say the "constant reader" (Hey, even I can make nods to Stephen King! Joe's problems have followed him to Arnhill with the appearance of Gloria, a hitwoman intent on ensuring that Joe pays his debts.Too many bad vibes and too many heavy memories that wind their way into your dreams at night like odorous trickles of swamp water. If newspapers are the place where facts become stories, the Internet is the place where stories become conspiracy theories. Tudor’s “The Hiding Place” is a followup to last year’s “The Chalk Man” which I loved (and to me was a nod to Stephen King’s earlier works). Until he knows what truly happened to his dead sister, to the boy who jumped off the school roof 25 years ago and the reality of the latest deaths, he’s going nowhere. It happens through writing style, the characters on the page, and the perspective amongst other aspects.

I choose to while the days away in my literary comfort zone, where suspension of disbelief is a nonstarter. The town is as much a character as any of the people and Tudor does an excellent job of portraying that small town, claustrophobic, cloying nature. She also annoyed Tim Robbins by asking a question about Susan Sarandon’s breasts and was extremely flattered when Robert Downey Junior showed her his chest. Joe doesn’t expect a warm welcome, yet he hardly has time to drag his crippled leg over the threshold before new and old villagers make it painfully clear they want him gone.I am a big chicken and worried this might be too much for me to handle, but yet I couldn’t put this down and am so happy I continued on.
