Miyo's only ray of hope was that she might one day marry Kouji, her childhood friend, but even that wasn't to be. Again, both of their behaviors make sense, but the way it was potrayed felt incredibly frustrating to read at some points.

They're convinced that she's going to be sent away in shame, but Kyoka (and his adorable middle-aged servant) actually take to her, which is where the "happy marriage" part comes in. You also get to see Kaya (the half-sister's) reaction to being told that Miyo will be marrying Kyoka. At the Saimori residence, Minoru is still furious to have lost Miyo's Usuba bloodline for Kazushi's future children, but is assured by Shinichi that once Kiyoka rejects Miyo, Kazushi can have her. Kiyoka played a big role in helping her heal, and I thought that their pure relationship and semi-slow pace was wholesome. This is definitely more tame compared to what I've been reading as of late but do not be fooled as this story has heart and trials especially with what our fmc Miyo goes through.

At the Tatsuishi residence, Minoru invites Kaya over and shows her the photo of Miyo and Kiyoka, happily engaged. I wouldn't be surprised if members of Miyo's mother's side of the family become prominent characters in later entries in the series, which could potentially lead to some exciting developments. To get rid of her in a way that makes her useful, Shinichi arranges for Miyo to be engaged with Kiyoka Kudou from the Kudou family, a notoriously bad-tempered soldier known to scare away potential wives within days of meeting.

Miyo is nervous, but Kiyoka is annoyed because while he finds Tadakiyo somewhat irritating, Kiyoka downright loathes Fuyu, his mother. Also if anybody is curious before reading cause they too found the anime before this, this novel takes up about half the first season of the anime. The story is okay, quite melodramatic, though the book kept repeating situations and information which got tiring. The next day, Miyo has a conversation with Yoshirou who feels grateful for meeting her and tells her to depend on him and Arata as a family.In an alternative version of the Taishō era in which spirits and magic are real, but in decline, Miyo Saimori, born without supernatural talent, is forced into an existence of servitude by her abusive stepmother. Although there is some pretty intense drama with ability users fighting, so far, it hasn't been on a large scale. Her family sends her off as a bride candidate for the young master of one the rising families, who is notorious for, you guessed it, turning down all candidates. But when horrible visions begin to assail her night after night, she gradually starts to break down. Born to a noble family, Miyo is raised by her abusive stepmother and married off to Kiyoka, a soldier so heartless his prior fiancées fled within three days into their engagement.I also wish we’d get to see more of grandpa spending time with Miyo like a normal grandpa and granddaughter relationship. When Kiyoka refuses to leave Miyo behind, Arata tells Kiyoka he should focus on the Grotesqueries' impending invasion on the capital before he challenges him to a duel.
