Description

Evan witnesses the girl being assaulted and verbally abused by her father. He hears the girl's father screaming at her about a photo, Callie's photo. The girl's father is unaware that Evan witnessed this abuse and continues to abuse his daughter. Evan takes off like a shot after witnessing that and gets Chris. They call the police and manage to stop the girl's father from abusing any further. The police arrive and arrest the father, and the girl reveals her name, Margaret.

While reading The Watcher, there was one true holy shit scene. Not because of something horrific, but because of just how well Maclean crafted, and wrote it, and laid it all out on a silver platter -- with a big, pretty bow.Whilst we watch her, watching others, a pattern of unreliability and instability emerge, it’s clear something is wrong in Lily’s life. Her job is unsatisfying and she is only going through the motions her husband appears to be becoming a recluse, a shut -in, and even though Lily loves him it grows harder for her to connect with him. Armstrong offers up a lot of hints that all is not well in Lily’s world: her solicitous work colleagues and their off-hand comments; the police’s assertion that she’s a regular at the station; the gaps in her own memories; and her fear of ‘inheriting’ a mental illness. Lily’s story is strange and compelling, it’s clear she has a vivid imagination and her life has a dream-like and almost post-apocalyptic feel, although it’s set very much in the now of modern day city dwellers and the deep social divide between the Young upwardly mobile city workers and those who are not so much have nots as have never hads. Suddenly enraptured by what he assumes is guilt, Martin disappears leaving the birthday girl all alone and very confused. The book "The Watcher" is an excellently written book that has to do with the life of a young girl- Margaret. This young girl is only know for sitting on the wooden steps that lead down to a beach, no one knows who she is or where she comes from. All they know about her is that she writes in a journal and watches the people on the beach. The book is actually a mixture of poetry and a normal narrative story.Lily wants to narrow this gap. She is a people watcher of extremes and has created names and even woven lives around many of the people she knows only by sight. It becomes clear that despite her accurate record keeping and obvious intelligence, she is perhaps not the most reliable of narrators.

If you are easily upset...stop right here.-- The New York Times Not one to usually be influenced by such things, I couldn't help myself when even Paul Newman went out of his way to blurb this book: "I'm something of an insomniac. I read The Watcher and stopped sleeping altogether". How could I resist such an endorsement as that?Unfortunately, this proof copy was full of errors. It needs some strong editing before it's released. I don't usually comment on this when reviewing proofs, as they're not in the final stage, but there was a particularly large number of mistakes in this, so I thought I'd mention it.
