It can be quite challenging to write a range of engaging books using just the sounds and words learnt, particularly at the beginning. So, some schemes include a few additional words, making them classed as highly decodable instead. Isaac is a fringe character to things but well portrayed in his own right. Dad is a wonderful, supportive, strong but grieving dad. Phonic readers ensure that children only take home books that contain letters, sounds and words that they have been taught. We need to teach the skills before expecting children to be able to do something independently. Dandelion Readers are a series of decodable phonics based texts based on the progression of the Sounds-Write™ reading and spelling programme. They are primarily for Reception/Year 1 children. Olivia is getting on with being 11, avoiding the class cow and her cronies and trying not to let on that she likes Ben in her science class. I've classed this as confident readers 10+ but most 10 year old girls will love this story, even if they might need some tissues close by. The books have a step by step progression and can be used alongside any phonic programme. Each text is controlled by the phonemic focus in the book and enables the child to practise blending and reading independently at every stage. The texts are not based on repetitive sentences, thus ensuring the readers practise blending the sounds through the word.Both the National Curriculum (2014) and Ofsted’s School Inspection Handbook (2019) highlight the need to support developing readers by providing them with decodable reading books that are closely aligned to their developing phonic knowledge. So, what are decodable books? Loved it! I always love a good book that I can get into like this, that explores the main character's thoughts and feelings in such depth, taking us on this complicated, intense, emotional journey and teaching us important morals and lessons in life, it was just so feel-good and heart-warming! This was one of those books that I enjoyed as a child even though I had no idea what a dandy was at the time. What truly makes this book fun and creative is the wordplay on dandy lion and of course the actual Dandelion (both the character's name as well as the flower that he uses for his bouquet). There just aren't really that many books and authors who explore such concepts.

There’s relatability in this and the poems have improved slightly, in my opinion, since the last one: “Adultolescence”. However, I still don’t find these types of “poems” to even be poetry, and Gabbie Hanna certainly doesn’t manage to convince me that they are. That being said, the “poems” that were longer than 1-5 lines were much better than the shorter ones. Initial Code Books Units 1 to 10 introduce the basic sounds of the alphabet and can be used to launch children into reading.At Phonic Books, we create, design and publish decodable books to help beginner readers and older, reluctant readers. What are decodable books? Offer age-appropriate books. Some children need additional time and support so may need to read decodable books for longer. When children get older, they don’t want to keep reading the books that children in Key Stage 1 read, so offer them a range of decodable books specifically for older children. Once Liv’s mum dies we see her struggle to come to terms with it and managing even the simplest daily tasks become a challenge. I can’t imagine what losing a parent is like but I can’t imagine anyone knows how to handle it very well – let alone an 11 year old child. The handbook includes a general introduction, guidance on identification, keys, accounts of the 239 species with revised descriptions, 3-6 colour images per taxon, showing key features with a distribution map, and references, a glossary and an index. Two key aspects – Decoding (no guessing) and Comprehension. Children should be encouraged to use their phonic skills rather than guessing when they encounter a new word. Support and model how to sound out the word and then blend the sounds together. Talking about and discussing the book is also important for developing vocabulary and those early comprehension skills too. Children are more likely to experience success which will build their confidence, motivation and enthusiasm for reading. In the Czech translation of the books and the game, Dandelion's name is "Marigold" and Triss Merigold is called "Triss Ranuncul".

The characters in this book are amazing. Liv's voice resonates strongly through the story and she's someone a majority of us can relate to. The characters all had their own quirks and individual personalities and each of them play an important part in the story. I loved them all so much and I couldn't possibly choose a favourite. Das Ende konnte mich emotional ziemlich mitnehmen, weil der Ausgang natürlich traurig ist, auf der anderen Seite aber auch total hoffnungsvoll stimmt. Die Botschaft der Geschichte „Lebe dein Leben“ ist bei mir angekommen.
