Description

Its sensor and lens mount are Micro Four Thirds. The camera works with autofocus lenses fromOlympus, Panasonic, Sigma, and a few others, and has broad compatibility with manual focus lenses. It's not compatible with Panasonic's full-frame L-mount system, though, so you'll need to take a little care when shopping for glass. You can choose to shorten the time of remote operation and image transfer or remote shutter control in [Setup]>[Bluetooth]>[Returning from Sleep Mode]. There is also a large Live View Finder (LVF) with a magnification ratio of approximately 1.52x / 0.76x (35mm camera equivalent). A high-speed OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) display featuring a 3,680K-dot resolution and 100% field of view. This would be even more necessary for not interchangeable lens cameras, like the FZ300 or my two beloved Sony R1, an amazing advanced concept camera needing a robust update, this included!

Blurring the lines between stills and video

The Micro Four Thirds format supports loads of adapted lenses, so you've got the flexibility to use modern lenses for a sharp, high contrast look, or go with vintage lenses for a more artistic style. We went with an antique Canon 50mm F1.2 for the sample clip above, captured at 24fps using the Cine2 profile. Stills can be shot in raw format for those who want maximum post-production control, but even its fresh-from-camera JPEG images look engaging and lively. The GH5 II comes with a range of Photo Style picture profiles (the effects of which can also be applied to videos), including Standard, Vivid, Flat, Monochrome and V-Log L, and you can create up to four custom preset profiles if you want more control. In addition to that, there are 22 filters to add instant character to photos. Video performance and quality However, what is still unusual is the level of support tools and features that are included. Few of the other cameras that can match the GH5 II's video modes are as video-focused in their execution as the Panasonic. Dual Zebras and Luminance Spot Meter make it easier to set exposure correctly. The option to set exposure time in shutter angle is still a valuable rarity in mass-market cameras. In fact, this is the one limitation to the internal recording on the GH5S; if you want to capture Cinema 4K or 4K UHD footage at 10-bit 4:2:2 quality and 50/60fps, it will only do this via an external device.

Video Speed Class 60 or higher is required for ALL-Intra 400Mbps recording. Use of SD Memory Card with Video Speed Class 60 or higher is recommended for 4K ALL-Intra video recording. The GH5 II's body design doesn't stray too far from its predecessor. It's relatively compact, about 3.9 by 5.5 by 3.4 inches (HWD), but dense at 1.6 pounds. The magnesium body is protected from dust and splashes, so the GH5 II is as fit for location work as it is on a set. The GH5 gets Panasonic’s Axis Dual IS II anti-shake system. This in-body image stabilisation system works in tandem with Panasonic’s wide range of optically stabilised lenses to deliver up to five stops of correction – great news whether you’re planning to shoot stills or looking for a stable video rig, if you’re planning to shoot handheld quite a bit. The 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor does place its own limits on the resolution and the high ISO performance, but our lab tests repeatedly show that, small as they are, these MFT sensors hold their own very well against larger APS-C sensors. There's plenty of reason to believe this is true: even the 12-stop version of V-Log L will encode most of the sensor's DR (10-bit Log encoding is much more efficient than 12-bit linear, so is unlikely to result in any significant loss of tonal precision), so is it really worth the additional work, if you mainly just gain the ability to make greater corrections to white balance? This is a camera designed equally for stills and video, though in this latest version it’s the video capabilities that have received most attention. Nevertheless, with its 20MP sensor, fast burst mode and enhanced burst depth of over 108 raw files or more than 999 JPEGs, this is a camera that’s also very effective at stills and action photography.

The camera supports anamorphic lenses, and there is no chance of overheating either. The camera includes a dual SD card slot which is not always the case, has a quiet shutter, and a flippy screen which can be turned in any way. Panasonic Lumix GH5 - one of the most advanced Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. As you take this camera for a spin (trust me, you want to take this one for a spin) you’ll experience its stand-out features. Allow me to introduce you to your next camera rental! The GH5 II has a slightly smaller rear screen than its predecessor: it's a 3.0" panel rather than 3.2". It's still a 3:2 aspect ratio and has slightly increased resolution. The most significant difference, though, is that it can be made brighter than the older screen, which makes it easier to operate the camera outdoors.

The GH5 II's multi-pattern metering proved hard to fault in our tests, and the i.Dynamic option for in-camera JPEGs has kept the shadows light here while holding on to the bright sky beyond.
