Description

Rope sheave gauges play a crucial role in ensuring equipment reliability and safety. They enable timely maintenance, prevent costly repairs, and contribute to the efficient and safe operation of sheave-based systems. Sheaves are used to allow a line or wire to make a directional change of up to 180 degrees, without chafe and with a minimum of friction. Sheaves turn on Sheave Axles, and may have Bushings installed in them to reduce working friction, or to reduce their Inside Diameter (ID). When it comes to forming the groove and flange walls, Crosby does this in multiple steps. The upsetting and roll forging process eliminates the need to split and weaken the groove and adds strength to the groove section. We have complete confidence in our exclusive forging process. And, because it’s forged to distribute the wire rope forces evenly over an accurately formed load surface, this extends and maximizes life performance of the sheaves. In addition, uniformity of the roll forged groove adds longer wire rope. Solid Steel-No Casting The groove of a new sheave should have a diameter 5% greater than the cable diameter. Cables should not be run over sheaves if the sheave groove diameter is 10% greater than the cable diameter. The sheave groove should be machined to support from 135 to 150 degrees of the cable diameter. The inspection process with sheave gauges involves preparing the sheave, positioning the gauge, measuring wear depth, and repeating for multiple grooves if applicable.
