We tested all 15 coffee grinders on multiple grind settings to find out which ones gave the best grind. A precise, even grind is essential for making tasty coffee at home. Choose a poor coffee grinder, and you may end up with uneven grounds and a poorly extracted, watery brew.

This grinder is about the lowest price “proper” burr grinder available in the UK. If all you're looking for is a true burr grinder for as little pennies as possible, then this is probably it, at the time of writing. I say “usually”, the exception is if you're buying coffee beans from a local roaster who'll grind for you when you collect, or if you're buying from me :-), all of my coffee at The Coffeeworks is available whole bean of course, but if you want it pre-ground, just select the pre-ground option and we'll grind it as we're bagging it up, on the same day of dispatch, to maintain maximum freshness: If you want the best possible cup, then you're best off grinding coffee beans immediately before brewing. Can I use a coffee grinder for other types of brewing methods besides pour over?So first take the bean hopper off the top of the grinder and give that a clean in the sink with water (make sure it is completely dry when you reassemble). On the other hand, most of the best electric espresso coffee grinders are significantly easier to use and frequently come with a slew of extra capabilities that'll mean you're drinking some of the best coffee.

There are a handful of coffee grinders on the market, but not all are suitable for grinding espresso beans. At the time of writing, for example, the Molino is available for a price cheaper than even the blade grinders above, and it's quite a bit cheaper than the other two in this category, so I'd grab this if I was wanting a really cheap grinder and I wasn't too fussed about getting a better cup quality by investing in a grinder with proper burrs. Best entry-level burr grinders

More expensive grinders will give you finer control over the grind, higher capacities and sometimes larger burrs, which are supposed to produce even less heat than normal burrs, minimising the impact of the milling process on the taste of the final coffee. Additionally, flat burr coffee grinders will usually be much pricier than their conical burr counterparts. For most people, a coffee grinder with a conical burr is going to be more than sufficient for the job of grinding beans for your coffee machine. Steel vs ceramic burrs The DeLonghi KG79 is another grinder that has been around a long time, and as I've just said, this is very, very similar to the Krups grinder above. It's a bit more petite than the Krups, and it's slightly lighter, plus it does have a smaller hopper at 110g – but they're very similar grinders, with “burrs” (grinding wheels) which look pretty much identical to me. Features: Blade grinders are more affordable than burr grinders, but they are not as effective at grinding coffee beans evenly. Beyond this, the two grinders are similar, with a glass container that can be unscrewed from the grinder itself. However, here the handle is attached to a lid, which will need to be slotted on top of the hopper. This prevents any bean fragments from escaping mid-grind. It’s pretty secure, but it’s important to take care when grinding (this means keeping it upright in your hands, unless you want coffee beans all over the floor).
