I really like JWB, so I figured, "OK, if I like that, I'll probably like JWDB"! And, no great surprise, I was right. It's like JWB, but "more". Some smoke, a "chewier" mouthfeel, some nice sweetness without being a "sherry bomb". If you inhale it deeply after sipping, there’s a reminiscent of clove cigarette and has a smooth and lingering peat finish. Nose/aroma: This full-bodied blend conveys a subtle smokiness and robust spiciness. Hints of barley, cereal, toffee, and herbs all come together harmoniously. When taken neat, this is a legitimately delicious scotch whisky. You definitely won’t be mistaking this for an Islay scotch anytime soon, but it has some of those characteristics coming along for the ride combined with a fruity and rich flavor profile. I found something called "Aerstone Land Cask 10yr" for about the same price as JWDB, and it promised to be "Smoky". Game on. The Spirits Act of 1860 allowed companies to blend grain whiskies and malt whiskies. This began the wonderful era of having blended scotch whisky. Then, John Walker’s son and grandson have developed the brand into a powerhouse that we know and love today. The base grain whisky comprises corn and wheat, which are then supplemented with malts for additional flavour.

Consider this similar product...

In my (fairly extensive) experience, a blended scotch whisky will have amazing aromas but the actual flavors may be a bit mediocre… and then fall apart completely when you add some ice. That’s the way you typically identify it in a blind tasting, at least. So in this case, I want to give Johnnie Walker some serious credit for doing a great job with the flavor profile — even on ice. Faint smoke, red berries and tropical fruit, Christmas pudding with heaps of vanilla toffee and winter spice.
