We don't really get a full description of our protagonist and only really have the cover art to go off of. Jak, a boy born with power that the witches have not seen in a century, is their prophesied saviour. interesantes, por decirlo de alguna manera, y es una historia que te mantiene pegado a ella por lo entretenida que es. Also, there’s a huge difference in someone being 12” than you compared to 24”… so to say “he towered over me by a foot, or two” leaves me with little faith that the author would accurately depict size differences in this book. If his mother's plan works, Trojan Horse style Jak will end Marius and thus end the curse draining the witches' power.

Lord of Eternal Night is your typical monster-y romance: ingenue protagonist gets sacrificed to the monster, finds out they’re not so monsterous after all, questions some life choices, falls in love. For years, the witched of Darkmourn have been waiting for the the 100th anniversary of the curse that was brought upon the beast, as it cursed them as well, weakening their magic. The prose sounds like a queer 14 year old read a DnD, book, then armed themselves with a thesaurus, hubris and refused the help of an editor. The reviews and comments posted on this site reflect the opinions of individual posters and do not reflect the views of Cannonball Read. On top of being repetitive, I also found the writing style to be choppy, overly formal and stilted, and pretentious.

The author mentions at the end that there will be more series in The Darkmourn Universe coming 2022 and maybe I'll give it a chance.

But it would be boring if all went according to plan, and of course who can resist a mysterious man with a nice set of fangs.

She was written as though a giant reveal would happen and some wild shit concerning her would flip the tables, but nope, she just flops over and dies. Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some signs of wear on either the binding, dust jacket or pages.

The performance is too much and too put on to make the characters feel as themselves rather than just accents. The characters and story beats need to be fleshed out way more and while I managed to make it through the book with an idea of who the characters were, it is only because of my own ability to make assumptions and use these basic cutouts as launchpads. Regrettably I wasn't keen on the narration which, although did a wonderful job of giving me nervous chills during the hunt with his great tone for suspense moments I struggled to get through the more intimate scenes. narfna on “What the stories never said: at the end of the day, if a man wants to kill you, he kills you. What I enjoyed was the idea of this book (a vampire + a witch who must kill him), there were some really good scenes in the middle of the book when the two MCs decided to get to know each other and the ending.But instead of the ruthless and unfeeling monster he expects, Marius is an enigmatic but not unkind host who seems to want to avoid Jak as much as he can. But at some point, it starts to feel more like the author is just trying to tick off as many recognizable tropes and scenes as he can instead of focusing on just making a really good story. The voice an especially weird choice when it's for the other main character who's sometimes described ti have a silky voice and is supposed to be a heart-throb for the POV character.
