XD Maybe it were all those memories that made her stronger or the fact that her biological parents are horrible. Right now I’m nothing but pain and exhaustion and raw emotion, and I don’t have the bandwidth for another serious conversation. They don’t beat about the bush but address things directly and even though we didn’t get a lot of their friendship in this one it’s still amazing.

Learning what happened to the two sisters is horrible to read about because they have been treated as experiments. Also, the fact that afterward Kenji waltzes in the room while they’re both half naked is just so out of character. It’s weird that all my complaints about this book are about the romance because warnette is literally what keeps these books afloat but this was just bad! The slow reveal of what happened to Juliette and Warner, and how their past intertwined really gutted me (but…in a good way? A thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love, the Shatter Me series is a must-read for fans of dystopian young adult literature - or any literature!

Defy Me discusses Aaron’s development all over again, and his insecurities of the “monster” he became.

And of course, Nazeera and Kenji’s blooming relationship (I couldn’t stop laughing when Ian told Kenji to have some fun since the world was on fire, and also Nazeera’s/Kenji’s reactions to being given one room to share). Yes, I understand they have fallen for each other so many times, but it just feels cliche and convenient. I understand Nazeera, or even Warner, considering her Ella, but everyone else being so quick to jump on board just felt really icky because it was like they were deciding who she was without her being there or her consent.

PRAISE FOR Defy Me : "Written with precision and a sense of urgency, each chapter a strobe light-like moment in the lives of the teens trying to save their world. The plot twists are good and have done well to set up what will happen in the finale, and it’s just a shame that once again we have to face the same villain who was supposed to be dead.

Second, why all the drama and pages about this stupid marriage where Kenji convinces Warner to wait, and then Warner asks her later the same? Like I said, I really liked them, but they did tend to feel a little info-dumpy at times and would occasionally fall into the range of too much exposition.i enjoyed how in juliette/ella and warner’s pov we were shown flashbacks from when they were younger. For Juliette and Aaron, however, their POVs focus on their childhood memories, and how even though his father would “reboot” their memories, they were drawn to each other every time. Also, I know that Warner says he considers their residence in 241 a new beginning free from obligation and the beginning of a new life, but it’s such an unceremonious, boring place.
