A soundtrack is essential to any movie, music is used in various ways by a director - to portray emotion, create and introduce relationships and to also make references to the time period. The latter being a very distinguished element since it ends up fully spattered with blood many times throughout the movie. Lovett is the business partner and accomplice of barber/ serial killer Sweeney Todd; in some versions, she is also his lover. His garments all have been through a distressing process, creating a wrinkled and stained appearance.

Judge Turpin, played by Edward Lyndeck, sings a romantic duet, “Pretty Women”, with Sweeney about his pretty ward whom he intends to marry, Johanna (also Sweeney’s daughter).
