Were we ever surprised. Brookynn Prince is incredible here, and she and her friends speak right to my 3 kids, but her parents spoke right to the adults in the room. The mystery was sophisticated enough for us to be wildly entertained, but simple enough for the kids to understand too. It opened up some great discussions. Really phenomenal shelter at home programming.

There is romance and Dusty is a man who has suffered his own heartbreak. Even given the issue Jessie was facing, which I won’t disclose here, I struggled to see what he saw in Jessie. But who can tell what attracts one person to another? And if someone had taken my child and helped her get a tattoo without permission, I would have blown a gasket. Before I get started, you need to know going in that this book has a slightly altered feel to his previous novels, but I feel like this is a given, as each book he writes evolves into a new thrilling sub-genre. If I had to compare Home Before Dark to another one of Sager's books, I'd say that it would mostly align with Final Girls, as it portrays that same growing since of dread while serving a side of mainstream horror. The blurbs calling this a tale for fans of Hill House are spot on, and if you love a good ghost story, whether those ghosts are supernatural or manmade monsters, I think you'll adore this book.
