Nothing much will it seems, but finding her true self is much more important and in that she also finds her love for her music. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but I didn't find myself gripped like I did with her others. A book not afraid to glamourise the wonder of mother and daughter relationships, but to strip it back and let everyone see what it can be like. The reader learns the history of this family, and the hurt and pain that has been caused in the past.Grace doesn’t like a lot of fuss, so a surprise party to celebrate her reaching ninety is not going to be well received. P'haps because I'm Welsh myself I can identify with her characters and the use of certain colloquialisms. Luminous and lyrical, yet anchored by roots running deep into the earthy and everyday, it is about the power of stories: their invisible currents that run through all we do, writing and rewriting us, and the transforming light that they throw onto our world. It got into the depths of mother / daughter / grandmother / great grandmother relationships in such a wonderful and both heartbreaking and endearing way.

Meanwhile Grace's great-grand-daughter Beca is oblivious to all these worries, too busy navigating the highs and lows of teenage life and keeping secrets of her own. Grace is eighty-nine, she’s proud and independent and enjoys an early morning swim in the sea, no matter what the weather. I loved all the characters and did not see the twist in the story coming, so it was rather emotional for reasons I can’t go into without giving away the ending.She just wants a quiet celebration: her daily swim in the sea and a cup of tea with granddaughter Elin and great-granddaughter Beca.
