It feels odd to write this, given how everyone keeps saying that this is floral and 'for women', but my nose doesn't perceive this as such (OK it could be my nose!). To me the EDP comes across as a progression of 3 things: citrus cologne (with something bitter/herbal), peach-floral heart (but green, rather than sweet) and musk/sandalwood combo for base. I'm happy with all of that! The blending is excellent, so each part blends into the next.

It's the end of an era, for all those who recognize Joy as an icon of perfumery, but also the end of many other scents, like 1000 and Sublime, pieces of olfaction that are a part of so many people's memories and personal stories. Maybe there just aren't enough buyers of these fragrances in the world. Maybe their time has passed and they have become fragrance zombies. As for me, I think that Joy is just as timeless and important as Chanel Nº5. But what was once the "Costliest Perfume in The World" seems to have lost its market value, at least for its current owners, LVMH. Elegance is simplicity. Joy is elegance in a bottle. For all complexity of the formula, which arrived sealed and perfectly preserved, this is a stunning jasmine simply warmed by the real civet and musks inside. It’s not dirty, it’s not extravagant in a more contemporary way (think 70’s/80’s stunners); it’s simply beautiful. Louis Süe designed all the perfume bottles and boxes for Jean Patou. [5] 1930s [ edit ] JOY by Jean Patou I bought a sample of this during the winter thinking the fruity notes would cheer me up on gloomy days. But I totally hated it. There was a note, maybe musk, maybe patchouli, not sure that was very irritating. I was disappointed because it sounded very exotic & unique and because I know that Patou's scents are generally very high quality.With Joy, I smell a powdery opening, then floral overload in the mid that opens up to the most delicious and real rose that I have ever smelt - I'm blown away. I'm particularly interested in perfumes that have a reverse pyramid, where the delicate notes are embedded as absoluts in the perfume and come towards the end. (Rather than the typical, soft notes in the opening, a layer of deeper notes in the mid, then woods, resins and amber at the base. Boring!) JOY is a perfume of flowers that are far from being innocent or virginal: these flowers are carnal, they are sexual, they have body, they have heat, they are “dirty” in the best sense of the word, they like to be pollinated (😂); At first its smell may resemble that of soap, something clean and polished, but if you pay attention, you will feel this “dirtiness” touch deep down. Beautiful!

Last year Joy was sadly discontinued but I am a proud owner of perhaps the last two bottles of edt and edp. I don’t think I will wear Joy except maybe on María Félix birthday, as a tribute but I will keep it as a treasure of that golden era now gone forever. I have decided to love it for its uniqueness! Because it is unlikely that I will cross the path of another woman wearing it. In 1925 Patou launched his perfume business with three fragrances created by Henri Alméras. [4] In 1928, Jean Patou created "Huile de Chaldée", the first sun tan lotion. Far from commercial scents, Joy is an artisanal-fragrance intended to express the peak of years of refined sensory art by Jean Patou. It has been available in shops since 1930. This long-lasting parfum lasts throughout the day with just a few dabs since the percentage of essences is quite high. Most eaux de parfum have between 15-20%. Oriental-scents, such as this one, are indulgent and exotic, fusing aromas such as vanilla, musk and spices together and oftentimes featuring an amber accord. Add a Little Romance

That was the first time where I experienced something similar to astral projection, I closed my eyes and inhaled the complex and luxurious aroma. The genie took me where I saw a paradise of rich velvety blooms, roses and jasmines sweating from the fine mist of a nearby waterfall and warmed by the glorious golden rays of the sun.
