AnneMarie Walsh, Director of the 2021 production said “It’s been a privilege to work on this fantastic story with such a brilliant team – thanks to the fans for supporting our work, I hope you all enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!” I can’t help wondering who would want to buy the Dalek Collection DVD box set. It could be either aimed at obsessive completists who need to own everything, or aimed at occasional viewers who can’t be bothered to get any other DVDs but absolutely love the Daleks. I’d suggest that whoever buys it is likely to be disappointed. Other than an interview with David Tennant, the box set contains no new material and with the strange omission of Army Of Ghosts/ Doomsday doesn’t even contain all the Dalek episodes in the new series. For me, despite the claims of the production team at the time, the world of Art Deco and Dalek design don’t gel easily. In all, the season three Dalek episodes have the appearance of a desire to include the Daleks regardless of story. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were getting excited about ‘Power of the Daleks’ being animated. However after the way 2020 has turned out so far, the release in 2016 feels like a lifetime ago! I’d give the episodes more stars individually than I would give the box set – but the box set I would give two stars.

It sounds like it was a playful Christopher Nolan who got chatting following an event for his megahit Oppenheimer in Los Angeles earlier this week. The announcement lands on the 53rd anniversary in which the last episode of the original version was aired. The new animated release will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and a Limited Edition Blu-ray Steelbook from 27th September 2021.The Mind Robber – this one would be so cool to see in colour, I know tales of the tardis has used it, so, again, not sure they do another omnibus so soon… The War Games – now this one I could see being a long project indeed, perhaps even over two omnibuses or even a longer one… this one would be very long to complete though The Invasion – after tenth planet, this is the next go to for partially missing stories, and there is a lot of material still left – again depends on if they would update some of the animations to have a shada-like colourisation I’m not a huge fan of the endlessly repeated ‘surprise’ appearances of Daleks at the end of the season, but if you are going to include them, it is best to make them the centre of the story. This criticism cannot be levelled at the final two episodes in this box set. The incredibly fancy (and, truth be told, a little more expensive) Steelbook format is the only choice for those needing a physical media release that doubles as a table tennis bat in a pinch.
