I would say the drawstring closure and foot shape of the Montane Prism Booties make them a better foot fit but the firm sole makes them less useful for sleeping in. So it is a toss-up between the two. But I would give the edge to the Montane Prism. Faults deemed to have been caused by misuse or improper care (including washing not in accordance with the product wash care instructions) are not covered by the guarantee. We do not offer to reimburse postage costs if an item doesn't fit / you don't like it / change of mind etc.

The Rab Expedition Slipper is not a customizable product; it comes in one color, one down fill level, and four sizes. GooseFeet, however, offers a rainbow of color, fabric types, and fill levels. My measured weight for the booties was 5.75 oz/164 grams, consistent with the published weight of 5.8 ounces. OUTSIDE OF SHARP END USE THEY MAKE A NICE CAMP SLIPPER, GOOD FOR LOUNGING AROUND BETWEEN TRIPS UP HIGH (MAYBE BRING 2 PAIRS TO LEAVE ONE STASHED AT A HIGH CAMP) AND ACTUALLY FIT OK INSIDE YOUR OUTER SHELLS FOR SHORT TRIPS OUTSIDE. The Rab Expedition Slipper is a slipper, not a hut bootie, and is not designed for wear outside of the quilt or for walking around. TractionLightweight, but comfortable, foot covering for use in and around camp is a very desirable thing to have after a day of hiking or climbing, as well as waiting out a storm in the tent. Although we did not encounter any snow storms during the test period, we did spend some time waiting for scattered thunderstorms to die down.

Most, including some not pictured, have served well, though each has its own quirks. Some of my booties have down fill, while the others have synthetic fibers. Rab Expedition Slippers have a soft sole, made for sleeping, not walking around in camp. Elastic Foot Shaping During our last few days in Mongolia, we stayed at a ger (aka yurt – the typical Mongolian dwelling) camp, the grass was very wet from the night’s thunderstorm and heavy dew in the morning for the walk to the dining ger, giving a good test of the water repellency of the Pertex shell. Despite the wet grass brushing against the outer shell during the couple hundred meter walk from our ger to the dining ger, the inside of the booties stayed completely dry. Great indoors slippers with a durable rubber sole. Comfy and warm. I spend a lot of time at home and during the fall, winter, and early spring, keeping my feet warm and cozy is a priority. The last pair of slippers I had lasted about 10 years (with some modifications to make them more comfortable and durable, as if they were actual motorcycles): Dreaming of summer rides... So getting replacements for these (they're on their last miles) was a big consideration weighing price, comfort, and longevity. Full review

The Prism Bootie from Montane is a lightweight, fully insulated camping slipper designed for maximum warmth and comfort at the end of a hard day's hiking or skiing. The Rab Expedition Slipper has a soft Pertex Quantum inner and outer, which feels like silk on the skin and glides nicely inside a quilt or sleeping bag. The Expedition Slipper also features a loose elastic tensioner in the insole and at the ankle, making the slipper fit well around the foot. Durability The sole is made from tough Hypalon which extends up onto the Bootie upper for some added durability. Whilst this sole is tough, we would recommend limiting the Bootie to indoor/tent use where possible, although it should stand up to a late night bathroom trip if needed. As with all the gear I use, I have developed a set of requirements for the “resting in camp” footwear. Since this is a Limited Review, a detailed performance analysis based on long-term use will not be presented. Instead, performance observations and issues are noted below. Rab Expedition Slipper WarmthThe booties themselves have stood up well, with little perceptible wear during my usage of them. The one failure happened to the storage bag, as shown in the next photo. I was stuffing the booties into the supplied storage bag during our Asia trip. As I pulled the elastic cord to tighten the bag and compress the booties into a very small space, one end of the cord came loose and slid out of the drawstring tube. As can be seen in the photo, the two ends of the elastic were wrapped together in some cloth and stitched together (by hand?). The instant I slipped the Rab Expedition Slipper on, my feet instantly felt warmer. The 800 FP down is lofty, and the drawstring closure around the ankle ensures heat retention. This is the first slipper I’ve had that provides real four-season comfort. Weight And, of course, since we did not wear our boots inside the ger, the booties provided comfortable foot cover. Also, despite the temperatures being warmer than I would have preferred for the test, the booties did keep my feet warm and dry when walking around outside the tent during our low temperatures in the 20-30°F range. Hopefully, the forecast of a strong El Nino this winter for the Pacific Coast will provide an opportunity for more testing of the booties, at which point I will add an update. All indications in the testing in California, Japan, and Mongolia are that the Montane Prism booties serve their purpose well, and can replace all the collected booties I have in the closet.
