The DDJ-200 does not feature pad mode selection buttons so for changing the behavior of the pad section mid-performance you will have to use your mobile device’s screen. There is no dedicated sound FX section on the DDJ-200.The buttons that let you change the performance pad modes also aren’t present on the DDJ-200. DDJ-200 is made with mobile devices in mind. The app records your mixing, which is perfect for posting on Soundcloud to gain a following. The app is free to install for this smart DJ controller, but to get all the extra goodies; you’ll have to pay in-app charges. Mixer Section and Controller Controls Depending on your app and device combo, you can mix sounds via streaming services including Beatport, SoundCloud Go+, TIDAL, and even Beatsource. Also when buying a used DDJ-400 make sure that the Rekordbox DJ license comes with it or if the previous owner is able to transfer the license to you.

You can use both the DDJ-200 and the DDJ-400 with your laptop or your PC and with your mobile devices. Microphone input. DJs can mix on either their mobile device (with a mixing app & streaming services) or computer (using Pioneer’s Rekordbox DJ.) In our current technocratic age, everyone has a smartphone. Not everyone has a suitable laptop for mixing. There is also quite a large difference in weight where the DDJ-200 weighs around 4 pounds (1.8 kg) and the DDJ-400 around 7 pounds (3 kg). There is also a considerable difference in size.The DDJ-200 also doesn’t feature channel gain control knobs (trim knobs) so you won’t be able to tweak and fine tune the gain of each mixer channel on the device itself. The LED channel level indicators are also not present on the DDJ-200 while the DDJ-400 has small channel level indicator lights for each mixer channel. These features get a DJ’s feet wet into manual mixing, but they don’t train the DJ on how to do it.

Great equipment at a great price I bought this for my son who is starting out mixing. For someone who's only ever mixed using turntables it was surprisingly easy to set up and get going. I wasnt actually expecting all that much for the price but was seriously impressed. The only reason I cant give 5 stars is the limitations of features on the various apps without paying a premium. There are innovative features aplenty on the Hercules DJ Control Inpulse 300 to teach beginner DJs how to properly DJ. If you want to learn how to mix, the Inpulse 300 is a better option than the DDJ-200. You can override this if you need, but it works well, and we never felt the need to adjust it. The app will also analyse and set beat grids required for Sync. Especially with the new phrase sync mode, its essential these grids are correctly set, and we found ourselves having to adjust them on more than one occasion manually. Thankfully this is easy enough to do and takes little time thanks to the intuitive controls. All in all, this is a fantastic little app that brings the best out of the controller! Keep in mind that there are many risks that come along with getting used DJ equipment.Overall whether it’s your first DJ controller, you search for a sturdy DJ controller for your curious kid or you want to find some portable gear for mobile usage the Pioneer DDJ-200 will be a great choice. Portability is the controller’s main design strength. The Pioneer DDJ 200 is minuscule and featherweight compared to a standard DJ controller. The DDJ-400 comes with a Rekordbox software license while the DDJ-200 does not. If you want to use the DDJ-200 with Rekordbox you will have to have it connected to your PC when you use the software (the unit acts as a software activation dongle).

What Equipment Do You Really Need To DJ? – Gear Recommendations Both devices feature only 2 mixer channels. However, what is unique is that by using the computers mouse, you can access of Rekordbox’s extensive performance features. This means you can even use Keyboard mode with the DDJ 200 just by pressing on the pad modes on the screen. Very impressive stuff even if it doesn’t necessarily appeal to the beginners who will be buying this controller. The faders feel a little cheap, but they are relatively smooth and tactile. There is no gain knobs on each channel, which still perplexes me. A mixer without gain controls?!?! That’s how you know it’s a super entry-level model. The controller comes with a headphone splitter that starts from your phone or laptop and splits to your headphones and speaker, both using 3.5mm outs. You can’t, therefore, connect to a pair of speakers without a mixer, or a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
