Description

Remove the existing transformer by unclipping it from the mounting rail. You may need to use a flat head screwdriver to do this. Mounting screws - Use two to mount your Ring Doorbell. Use the longer screws if you’re installing with the optional Retrofit Kit. If you ever uninstall your Ring Video Doorbell, be sure to restore your chime wiring to its original state to avoid damaging your doorbell system. 7. Uninstall your existing doorbell button They save time and work - components simply snap or slide into place on the rail, rather than having to panel mount each individual component separately. If your transformer is in your consumer unit or mounted separately to a wall, make sure to follow this step.

The Ring app connects your Ring Doorbell to your mobile device running iOS or Android, making sure you’re always home. Search for “Ring” in one of the app stores above, or to automatically find the correct app, visit ring.com/app. Similar to but distinct from hydraulic valves, solenoid valves are an electromechanical component acting as a functional interface between electrical or electronic control systems and pneumatic drives, using an electric current to generate a magnetic field and thus operate a mechanism. This allows for the automatic operation of the valve, without requiring an engineer to physically manipulate it themselves. Your transformer is most likely in your fusebox or consumer unit. If not, look in other places where electrical components are installed. It may also be inside your existing doorbell. You can often get a clue to the location of the transformer by looking under the cover of your internal doorbell. CAUTION: You'll be working with electrical wires during the installation process. If you are uncomfortable or inexperienced with doing so, consult a qualified electrician. 3. Grab the included bypass cable To bypass your existing chime, unscrew the wires from your existing chime. Twist them together using a wire nut.

What are DIN Rail & Panel Mount Transformers?

However, these naming conventions are reasonably interchangeable and understood by most installers, and the mounting rail shapes and sizes they refer to will still be fully compatible. We’ll say a bit more sizing and compatibility in subsequent sections. To remove, spread the two sides of the housing outwards, and push the transformer unit up from below. Insert the wire you disconnected from your chime into the open port on the remaining connector, then flip the lever down.

To identify this you will need to locate the transformer, which is often installed in or near to your main electrical fuse board. It may be labelled doorbell transformer and needs to be low voltage (8 to 24 VAC) to power your Ring Video Doorbell Wired. Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 (DIN Rail Transformer required if your existing doorbell system only works at 8 to 12 VAC) Locate the output cables that are connected to your doorbell. These may be connected to the terminals marked ‘output’, ‘8-12 V AC’ or a similar low voltage. Disconnect these cables and put them to one side. You can identify whether your doorbell has an inbuilt transformer by the presence of high voltage cabling entering your chime along with markings that indicate high voltages of 230V. These cables are often secured inside the transformer housing. For the doorbell installation we will only alter the low voltage cabling. If you are unsure, you should consult a qualified electrician. To hear alert sounds throughout your home, you can add the Ring Skill to any Alexa-enabled speaker, or add a Ring Chime to your system. 4. Remove the cover from your doorbell chimeYour existing chime needs to be bypassed because the DIN Rail Transformer is powerful and runs on DC rather than AC current. Not bypassing will cause damage to your existing chime. Refer to your local laws and building regulations before performing electrical work. Permits and/or professional installation may be required by law in your area. Here the transformer is at the bottom of the chime. You can see the markings which show mains voltage is connected at the bottom, and outputs 8V to the doorbell mechanism above. Note: DO NOT USE any screw other than the included mounting screws when securing your Ring doorbell. Then, disconnect the mains wires that currently run to your doorbell from the fusebox, and connect them to the 24 volt outputs on the Ring DIN Rail Transformer. This repurposes those mains wires to carry 24 volt power to your doorbell. The final install, including the Pro Power Kit, should look similar to this diagram.

Note: If you're installing on wood or siding, you can skip this step. 11. Connect the doorbell wires This can be done by turning off the mains power switch, or by turning off the power coming into your home at your electric meter. Ring your existing doorbell and listen for the chime. If it rings, we know your existing doorbell system is working. When installed, your existing doorbell chime will no longer function, so you will need to use a Ring Chime or Alexa-enabled speaker if you wish to hear a doorbell chime inside your home in addition to the notification on your phone or tablet.

Message to Community

If you're setting up with a Plug-In Adapter, you can choose to temporarily connect your doorbell to your home wifi network before physically installing your device. You may want to take a photo of your existing chime wiring before you begin, in case you ever want to restore it to normal. In the example below, the terminals 0 and 3 are across the doorbell mechanism, and terminals 1 and 2 are connected via a jumper wire between the two terminals. Disconnect the two terminals that are either side of the solenoid/coil in the case of the example terminals 0 and 3. If your chime looks different, please consult your chime installation manual to identify the terminals either side of the solenoid/coil. Tips for identifying which side is your doorbell mechanism

In some cases, your doorbell transformer may integrated into your internal doorbell. In this configuration, mains power runs from your fusebox directly to the transformer in your doorbell. To replace this type of transformer, make sure that your main power switch is off, then install the Ring transformer in your fusebox. Next, connect mains power to its 240 volt inputs. To power your new doorbell, you need to bypass the doorbell mechanism by removing the wire from the doorbell mechanism and connecting it to the second terminal on the transformer, in this example terminal 3. If you are unsure, you should consult a qualified electrician. Tips for identifying your transformer For your safety, only use an existing doorbell transformer within the supported range (16 to 24 VAC, 50/60Hz, 10VA to 40VA) or DIN Rail Transformer (24Vdc, 420mA) to power your Video Doorbell Pro or Pro 2.

Remove the wires that run through your doorbell’s solenoid (again, 0 and 3 in this example), and straighten the ends. Then, firmly insert the wires into the Bypass Mode holes on Pro Power Kit. It doesn’t matter which wire goes to each hole.
