However, if they were subjected to this utter charade of unfunny, poorly structured incompetence, otherwise known as 'Series 8' then I truly believe they'd be crying down upon us from their clouds in heaven. The final four years see a big change (I won't spoil it) but by now we've worked into a comfortable format that is less about sending up the British abroad and just utilizing the excellent characters and it became 50% a workplace comedy with the staff fully integrated into the story lines. An additional workplace element was the misadventures of the staff at the Solana's hair salon Blo and Go in which we get four characters, each initially part of their own separate clique but eventually coming together into a well functioning comedy power quartet. Pauline's demise was a particular highlight and the actress who plays Pauline is superb. Noreen and The Oracle were scandalously underused which is a pity as they were 2 of my favourite characters from the early years of Benidorm.

Benidorm is a British sitcom written and created by Derren Litten and produced by Tiger Aspect for ITV that aired for ten series from 1 February 2007 until 2 May 2018. The series features an ensemble cast of holiday makers and staff at the Solana all-inclusive hotel in Benidorm, Spain over the course of a week each year. The Solana staff are angry, as everyone has been given a pay cut. Tiger Dyke is angry too - his cards and cash have been stolen, so he's relying on his Dad. The Garveys are worried Madge is being stalked, while Jacqueline is holidaying without Donald: they've arranged a wife swap to mark their wedding anniversary - so she arrives with Welshman Glynn. And despite the viewing numbers, to put these into perspective you really have to look at its slot on a Monday night; and fairly gauge it against the opposition. In Series 3 Martin arrives at The Solana without Kate - it seems he has dumped her. He now has a new travel companion instead. However, Kate does later turn up. Absent: Johnny Vegas as Geoff Maltby, Elsie Kelly as Noreen Maltby, Janine Duvitski as Jacqueline Stewart, Paul Bazely as Troy Ramsbottom and Selina Griffiths as Pauline Maltby. Kelly, who works at The Solana, has just got engaged to womanising barman Mateo, leaving Donald and Jacqueline worried. But Mateo seems more interested in Kate, and the pair soon end up having a passionate encounter, but will Martin discover his wife's betrayal? Meanwhile, Chantelle's pregnancy ends up pushing her and Janice closer together, whilst Geoff and Noreen sing a duet at the karaoke bar. Mateo reveals his home life is a disaster, his mother-in-law Dolores is threatening to kill him, so Lesley urges the barman to move out and start a new life. Clive, Tiger and Terri come up with a plan to retrieve Clive's 5,000 euros from dodgy property developer Monty - while Glynn's wife, Rhiannon, arrives at the Solana resort; but there's no sign of Donald. The show kept a consistent quality for 9 consecutive seasons but sadly it was the tenth that really crashed. I only noticed this on rewatching, but it doesn't quite work and I think the reason for this was the type of stories they were telling. The frustrating misunderstandings of Rob, his girl and his family were just pulled from a hundred cliche family sitcoms and let's face it: Rob and Cyd are perfect for each other because they are incredibly bland characters. This storyline and Monty's trouble with Sammy Valentino are stories that might work very well as a single episode of something but the aforementioned format of each episode corresponding to the events of a single day meant that these below average stores just got way too much air time. I think they expected a new season but ultimately the final episode is one of the worst final episodes of any show. The absence of Jodie (she is such a cutie!) was sadly the least of this season's worries.
