But the scary part, and I mean the truly scary part, is that this idea isn’t so far-fetched. I read that an artificial intelligence “app” discovered a new form of liver cancer treatment just by scanning doctor’s notes. Good? Of course. But scary is well. How long until these things become self-aware and then we’ve got a Skynet situation on our hands. Ugh. I don’t even want to think about that! The performances are fine, the story is “been there, done that” but despite it all, the film still managed to hold my attention. And given the critical and commercial response, it’s highly likely that we’ll be seeing more of this dead-eyed doll in the future. I can’t wait. Video: How’s it look? If people want to hate on Universal though, for knowingly giving us the shaft on this movie, that's more than acceptable.Gemma (played by Allison Williams) is a geniusroboticist for a technologically advanced toy company, Funki. Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her niece Cady (Violet McGraw) after a tragic accident kills her parents. Unsure of how to handle this newfound responsibility, Gemma turns to her project, MEGAN, for help. M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child's greatest companion and a parent's greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Allison Williams, Get Out), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. As Gemma faces pressure at work from her boss (Ronny Chieng, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) to deliver a finished version of M3GAN, she suddenly becomes the unprepared caretaker of her newly orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House). With M3GAN, Allison Williams plays Gemma, an inventor, and roboticist for a toy company that makes a popular child's toy similar to those iconic and pesky Furbees. But Gemma's new interest is in a lifesize doll with artificial intelligence that will become a child's best friend and help parents in their daily lives raise their young ones. So basically like the new and improved Good Guy Doll with a ton of bells and whistles. And it's obvious that Wan, Cooper, and Johnstone are having a blast behind the camera as their visuals pay homage in a blissful and hilarious way to movies like E.T., Child's Play, and other creepy toy and doll films that came before it. Everybody turns in solid performances including The Daily Show's senior correspondent Ronny Chieng as the stern and idiotic CEO of the robotic company, but the spotlight is truly on Allison Williams. She is the Queen of horror nowadays and just commands the screen every time she's on with her pitch-perfect performances and physical stuntwork. The one major complaint here is its PG-13 rating. It definitely hindered the horror element of it and could have been even better with that extra dose of gore, blood, and entrails, since many blunt instruments of death are used throughout the film. It would just enhance that level of fun here, but perhaps it was a marketing move to make way for an uncut edition later on home video. Universal has released the 2022 film 'Megan,' or 'M3gan,' to the UHD format less than seven months after the film's initial Blu-ray release. New specifications include 2160p/HDR video and Dolby Atmos Plot: What’s it about? Video: How’s it look? Audio: How’s it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about?without disturbing the quality of shadow detail; whites, which are more brilliant and lifelike; and skin tones, which are healthier and more faithful. Textural gains are a bit less dramatic. To be sure, the image is plainly sharper and overall clarity is wonderful, but the added resolution only pushes the M3GAN, orModel 3 Generative Android, is an artificially intelligent lifelike doll developed by Gemma. The android was designed to be a child’s best friend and loyal companion, especially when caretakers like Gemma need help. At first, MEGAN is a huge success, bonding with Cady and doing exactly what Gemma set out for it to do. However, M3GAN soon develops a violent streak when she becomes overprotective of Cady, leading to tragic consequences.

Is there anything creepier than the dead eyes of an android? No really…is there? Probably not. And I’ve never seen an android in the flesh (so to speak). But I think that technology is evolving fast enough that someday we’ll all have that opportunity. Remember a simpler time when we could go outside, ride a bike and play with some friends? Are those days gone forever? I’m going off on a tangent here. Let me switch gears. Though he’s not the man behind the camera, James Wan has given us his share of horror films. The latest entry into his pantheon is M3GAN, the story of an artificial intelligence “lifeform” who has more to her than meets the eye. Wan has made a name for himself and even with a few of his own films dealing with “creepy dolls”, namely Annabelle and Dead Silence. And now we’ve got…this. Essentially if you add some parts from Fatal Attraction, throw in a bit of Single While Female, mix in some bits of Terminator 2 and a good portion of Child’s Play you’ve got this. M3GAN comes with a wonderful-looking 1080p HD transfer that emphasizes those cooler steely blue locations.Theatrical/Unrated Cut– Both cuts of the movie are included with the unrated cut being, wait for it…6 seconds longer than the theatrical version.
