Whilst essentially similar in shape to the older, non-ED TrailSeeker, Celestron has updated the pretty standard single bridge roof prism design with a new, more modern-looking exterior that I personally really like the look of. These small binoculars offer a 7x magnification and a sizable 50mm objective lens, striking a good balance between size and light-gathering ability. They are sturdy, lightweight and easy to carry around. However, it's worth noting that they are not waterproof, which is something you'd expect for this price.

Of course, there's always another side of the coin, and I'm not going to hide it from you: The only way of limiting the rolling ball effect in a given bino is to scan very slowly, so in the end you may discover more with the Monarch ... You can use these binoculars in any weather or location, thanks to their complete weather sealing. They are also fog-proof due to being nitrogen-purged. With BaK-4 prisms and multi-coated lenses, you can expect good optics that are similar to more expensive models. Both binos have a big, comfortable, rubberized focus wheel that's easy to reach and operate. With the Monarch, the wheel always offered the right amount of resistance; I only tried it at medium temperatures, though. These binoculars are extremely versatile and fantastic quality is a guarantee. Brands such as Viking and Celestron provide unrivalled quality at cost-effective prices. We are certain that there is something for everyone here. On these Celestron TrailSeeker 8x42 ED binoculars, it comes in the form of a wheel located on the right eyepiece, which is the standard location.

If a very wide view is important to you, which will be the case for many users, but especially birders, then these Celestron TrailSeeker ED 8x42 binoculars wont let you down. When it comes to running footwear, you can keep your GTX-lined gear, I’m better off without it – in more ways than one

ED objective lenses provide superior images virtually free of chromatic aberration with accurate color reproduction, increased resolution and contrast One item that is different is the carry case and unfortunately, it is not for the better. The non-ED TrailSeeker that I tested came with a higher quality case that was the same that they use with their more expensive models like the Celestron Granite 8x42 binoculars. Not all ED glass is created equal. Celestron’s high quality ED glass delivers visibly brighter, sharper images compared to non-ED binoculars. The difference is especially apparent in low light conditions, such as at dawn or dusk. The overall image quality and brightness are truly excellent for a binocular at this price level and match that of many if the better mid-to-high level instruments that I have used. Although the TrailSeeker 8x42 binoculars only weigh 23.1 oz (655g), we found that during long periods of observation, our arms started to shake, making it difficult to maintain a steady hand-held view. If you're prone to trembling arms or will be using these binos for long sessions, we advise pairing them with one of the best tripods for astrophotography or the best travel tripod .

The SkyMaster 15x70 binoculars have a notable advantage. They collect more light and offer higher magnification, making objects that might appear unclear in weaker binoculars more distinct. While there's some softness and blurring at the edges of the view, which is typical in affordable models, these binoculars provide a comfortable 0.7 inches (18 mm) of eye relief, making them suitable for eyeglass wearers. The GlassPak isn't perfect – it gets in a tangle when it's not in use, and its bag is permanently attached to the harness, which is annoying – but the binoculars themselves come pretty damn close for the price. They're tough with a refined feel, and the image quality you'll get out of them (thanks to their high density, extra-low dispersion glass) is seriously impressive and super sharp. They're brilliant for astronomy but also perform well across a wide range of observation environments. The prism inside TrailSeeker is made of high quality BaK-4 glass with both phase and dielectric coatings so that more light is reflected off the prism and diverted through the eye. Taken together, fully multi-coatings and BaK-4 prisms maximize light transmission for the brightest, most detailed images possible. When looking through an 8x42 binocular with a high-quality, fully multi-coated optical system and dielectric mirror coatings on the prisms, you expect to be presented with a bright image and these Celectron binoculars did not dissapoint. Vortex 10x50 Crossfire HD BinocularIf you want to move up to the next level with your binocular stargazing, then the roof prisms on these binoculars bring super-sharp views and come with a useful harness and an excellent padded case.★★★★In our opinion, these binoculars are an excellent option for those on a budget and starting with stargazing or exploring. They are lightweight and ideal for trekking. However, we did notice a couple of downsides during our review. First, they require collimation, which means adjusting the alignment of the lenses. They are also prone to fogging in certain conditions. Premium BaK-4 glass used in the construction here ensures more light gets through, which results in greater viewing clarity, and thanks to a standard tripod adapter thread on the bridge between the lenses, it is possible to mount this device on a tripod for prolonged periods of viewing. Ultimately image quality is what it's all about, and in this regard, these bins deliver consistently crisp and colourful results, with our only gripe being the provided lens caps occasionally slipped off in our review period. Overall though, this is another solid binocular choice for birders… and beyond! For interest: On one walk with them, I also happened to be testing a good quality 10x26mm compact at the same time and the difference in image brightness in low light was quite remarkable. Here it is not only the quality of the optics that make the difference but also the larger exit pupil that an 8x42mm produces when compared to a 10x26 configuration. The moon appears stunning through these binoculars, easily fitting within the field of view with only a slight hint of false color. In July 2020, the UpClose G2 10x50 binoculars proved to be an excellent tool for observing the naked-eye comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE).
