Compared to the four members of her party, Megumin's stats are the highest in terms of intelligence and she is shown regularly to be clever when the situation demands it. However, said intellect is commonly hindered by her chuunibyou tendencies, best shown by her refusal to learn any spells outside of Explosion despite the obvious limitations that come with it.

This book is a nice companion volume to Frederik L. Schodt's work on Japanese manga, Dreamland Japan: Writings on Modern Manga. Given that manga and anime provide two segments of the Japanese entertainment ouroboros (along with video games and, now, trading card games), it proves useful in understanding the themes that tie all of these together: teamwork, the school system, passive religion, birth and rebirth, and war.

The main attraction of Konosuba is that it is a complete comedy that isn’t serious. If we compare this season to the previous two seasons and the legend of Crimson movie, it does its job just fine. Konosuba never had a plot in the first place so the fact that absolutely nothing happens in this spin-off shouldn’t bother you given that you have watched the first two seasons and the movie. Right off the bat, the characters are obviously different, and the show is too. I simply think that the series is not as funny without Satou Kazuma, Aqua, and Darkness. Having graduated from school, Megumin tries to earn enough money so she can leave the village to start adventuring, but she has trouble securing a stable job. In the meantime, she secretly trains in the night by casting explosion magic in the forest, with the village believing the explosions are the work of a demon. One night, Megumin is approached by a demon woman named Arnes who is looking for Chomusuke, whose true identity is the Dark God Wolbach. Megumin agrees to sell Chomusuke for 300,000 eris, but Chomusuke refuses to be taken away from Megumin. Yunyun then arrives and Arnes explains she has run into a bout of bad fortune, not knowing it is being caused by a bracelet she bought from Megumin's parents. The bracelet's energy attracts the attention of the villagers, who chase off Arnes thinking she is the cause of the explosions. Megumin decides to use the money she earned to leave the village and puts Chomusuke in Yunyun's care. After bidding farewell and receiving gifts from her classmates, Megumin uses a teleport spell to leave the village.

Father Zesta is arrested on suspicion of collaborating with the Devil King by pouring jelly slime powder into the city's hot springs. However, he manages to pass a lie detector test and the authorities have no choice but to release him. Megumin then wonders who the real culprit must be. Arnes then arrives to take Chomusuke, but Zesta, Cecily, and the rest of the Axis Church go into a religious frenzy when they realize she is a demon girl and chase her out of city, believing she is the culprit sabotaging the hot springs. Zesta then gifts Megumin with enough money to pay for a coach trip to Axel, and offers to have her stay the night. Cecily reveals to Megumin that Father Zesta had accidentally mixed jelly slime powder in the hot springs instead of baking powder, which was how he passed the lie detector test. Upon seeing how small the Axis Church's hot springs are, Megumin uses her explosion magic to create a much larger pool. The next day, Father Zesta casts a blessing on Megumin and she bids farewell to him and Cecily before leaving for Axel with Yunyun. Because of her refusal to learn any other magic, Megumin entirely dependent on allies after casting and to move away. Ironically, this is changed by the story; practically the arc where Megumin learns explosion. This arc had the vibes of the last two episodes of each Konosuba season; the big boss battle where the series actually has an above-average story. This battle was cool as all hell and it even felt a bit nostalgic. This sequence is the catalyst for the improvement of the rest of the series. From episode 5 on, we get almost exclusively Megumin and Yunyun banter for the rest of the series; a noticeable upgrade from the first couple of episodes of the series. The Megumin and Yunyun dynamic existed in the original series, but here, it’s used to a much greater extent. This doesn’t have much of a negative effect, but if it does, side characters like Ares and Cecily make appearances to keep things interesting. Her name is presumably a pun on the KonoSuba title, as the "Shukufuku" translates to "Blessing," or "to bless." Demon Ring: A cursed ring that grants the user "Demon Eyes", but with the prize of slowing turn them into a demon. Megumin got it from Wiz Shop, almost becoming a full demon (with a pair of horns) until Aqua lift the curse [2]. Overall, The Megumin spinoff is just more Konosuba; if you liked the original series, you'll like this. Granted, it is a watered-down version of Konosuba, a Konosuba lite if you will, but it still manages to be compelling. All of the aspects that made the original series are here: the dialogue and banter, the comedy, and the parodying of generic isekai, and while everything present is to some extent worse than the oringal series, Konosuba fans should be able to find some enjoyment in this season. Thankfully, this season gives the audience hope in what should be a bombastic third season for the franchise.
