Narrator: Dawson throughout the series, but the role is taken over temporarily for one chapter of Basil in Mexico by Basil since at the time Dawson was kidnapped by Ratigan.

Basil was a supporting character in the Disney Adventures comic, where Olivia and the newly reformed Fidget took the starring roles.

Basil made a few cameo appearances in House of Mouse. His most notable cameo is him keeping Dawson away from a mousetrap that Ratigan has set for them in the episode "Donald's Lamp Trade". In another episode, Basil and Dawson were some of the mice to take flight on Dumbo's Airline. In an unproduced pitch by Frank Angones for a Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers reboot, Basil was going to be Olivia's mentor before she founded the Rescue Aid Society.To make these matters clear, I shall tell you something of his amazing career as a detective, and then relate the events leading up to the crime. Canon Welding: Basil in the Wild West states that Basil's cousin is the title character of the Anatole series by the same author. The Great Mouse Detective (1986) doesn't have those problems. Plenty of shoutouts throughout the series to Titus' other mouse-related series, Anatole, (and of course, to The Canon itself. Children's author Eve Titus created the characters of Basil of Baker Street and Anatole. Basil, a mouse private detective in the Victorian age, was the subject of Walt Disney's The Great Mouse Detective. An animated adaptation was also made based on Anatole, a heroic and resourceful French mouse. Mice journeyed long distances to consult him, even French mice from across the Channel. He proudly keeps Ratigan’s handbell as memento of defeating Ratigan at last. After solemnly bids Olivia and Flaversham farewell, Dawson’s about to heads off as well since the case have ended, Basil’s about to reconsider, but his recent came to his home to ask for his help so he let Dawson become his new assistant as they began their new mysteries up ahead. Ratigan, no one can have a higher opinion of you than I have. And I think you're a slimy, contemptible sewer rat! Basil and Ratigan made meet-and-greet appearances throughout the theme parks in promotion for the film. They have been retired since 2004. It was actually originally intended for iconic British actor John Cleese to do the voice of Basil but turned down the role since he was cast in the non-Disney live-action film, A Fish Called Wanda, which was released in 1988.

Cats Are Mean: Throughout the series but averted in Basil and the Pygmy Cats since, you know, the cats are the same size as the mice. I know, it's intended for kids. Small kids. We should just say it's not one of those kids books that holds up. This story is filled with stunning deduction after stunning deduction, which I obviously won’t spoil. |Ratigan is shown as a rather different character than he was in the books as Moriarty. He is shown as intelligent, but much more outlandish and is shown with a lot of brute physical strength, which was never the case in the canon. Basil and Ratigan are arch-nemeses. This Holmes vs. Moriarty hatred is reoccurring in many spin-offs, but it is arguably wrong, seeing as Moriarty was only present in a few books, and Holmes respected his intelligence, rather than hating him.

At one point, a shot of the 'upstairs', 221B Baker Street, is shown in silhouette. You can hear Holmes and Watson discussing a case. The voice for Holmes is actually the voice of Basil Rathbone, even though he died 20 years before the movie was made. His voice was overdubbed and added into the movie from a reading of The Adventure of the Red-Headed League. The year is 1885 and Basil of Baker Street, one of the finest detectives in mouse and human history alike, and his companion Dr. Dawson, live in the cellar at 221B Baker Street. The disappearance of Angela and Agatha Proudfoot is one of his strangest cases yet, and with but a few crumb-like clues, will he be able to solve it?
