With the Camp Chef oven, you get a more reasonable max temperature of 400ºF. That’s lower than you get in most household ovens, but still high enough that you’ll be able to cook anything you want. And since 400ºF is not too high, you can spend less time monitoring the temperatures of the oven and more time enjoying your camping trip. How hot do these ovens get? Keep in mind that the grill portion takes up about 2/3 of the cooktop, which can swallow valuable space for fitting a large skillet or pot. Similarly, stoves like the Camp Chef Explorer allow you to swap out accessory tops, including a barbecue box or pizza oven. Griddles are separate attachments that fit over top the burners, and just like at home, they’re great for cooking up items like pancakes or a grilled cheese.

On the other hand, if you’re more worried about user-friendliness, convenience and just generally enjoying the cooking experience even when you’re camping, there’s no doubt in my mind that the Camp Chef oven is the better option. If your portable camp oven comes with specialised pots, make sure you use them. Most are designed to optimise cooking and cleanup for your specific unit. This is one of those that need an external heat source. So you can use it with a wood-burning stove as the picture above shows. Coming in a handy folded down state and an affordable price, it’s worth any outdoors person taking a closer look at this product. It can easily become part of your camping kit.
