Winter Solstice Gin from the Boatyard Distillery in County Fermangh shows off some of the fabulous flavours of winter – namely Christmas pudding! The collected spirit rests in hand-picked first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks where the natural sweetness and richness of the sherry absorbs into our gin. Whilst retaining the distillery's juniper forward method, it’s made with deconstructed Christmas pudding to highlight notes of candied orange, raisin, clove, ginger, nutmeg and more. I wonder when I might be tempted by a single triple distilled malt whisky from the same distillery ?

To finish the process a small amount of PX sherry is added to give our spirit a velvety smooth mouthfeel. Nose - "The nose opens with an array of citrus cream, combined with juniper, mixed herbs and somewhat sweet scented. Using his background in spirits, founder Joe McGirr realised his dream to build the first legal distillery in Fermanagh in more than 130 years.

This double contact method, which Dutch genever distillers would term ‘dubbel gebeide genever’, results in a more pronounced juniper flavour.

The spirit has pure water added to it before it is rested for a minimum of two weeks and then bottled at 46% ABV. Our boxes are made of 100% recyclable cardboard and our protective honeycomb paper wrap keeps your package safe and significantly reduces our need for plastic. Even the wheat used for Boatyard’s vodka can be traced from the bottle back to the field it came from.
