One is reading it as both a detective novel - set in the late 1970's-early 1980's - and as a writing conceit where the author, Graeme Macrae Burnet may - or may not - be a long dead suicide who dabbled in writing but killed himself in 1992 before he became successful. It’s important to step into this novel realizing you are about to read an easy flowing mystery that is character-driven. Gorski can have a bit of a holiday now, and that Mr Burnet's next book will again be one which keeps me guessing. Not sure I will read this dude again (well I might read reviews, and if some GR friends like the book, then I might try it 😉).

Neither Barthelme’s widow Lucette – younger than Gorski expects – nor his 16-year-old son Raymond seem moved by the news, which Gorski delivers in person on account of the man’s social standing. Now being described as a series, this latest work focuses on an investigation being carried out by Chief Inspector Georges Gorski, the head of the town’s police force.Main Hi Kahaani Hoon”, an Audible Original is a weekly storytelling show of 20 episode from Audible, written-created-performed by Major Akhill Pratap; an ex-Army Officer popularly known as The Soldier and The Storyteller. Lucette had understood that he dined at a club every Tuesday after work, and had done so for as long as she could remember. Both sleuths end up making important discoveries quite at odds with either their expectations or the leading conventions of the genre before an afterword written in Burnet’s editorial voice adds several metatextual hints more playful than compelling. Like the first book in this trilogy, The Accident on the A35 isn’t a crime thriller as contemporary readers are used to.

His attractive widow, Lucette, asks Gorski to look into why her husband had been driving in a location that made no sense given where he had told her he would be that evening. Graeme Macrae Burnet is the author of the 'fiendishly readable' His Bloody Project, which was shortlisted for the 2016 Booker Prize and the LA Times Book Awards.The story of the car accident and subsequent investigation by this detective Georges Gorski is fascinating. The deceased’s seventeen-year-old son, Raymond (the same name as the “author’s”), appears relieved by his father’s death. It was also used by Jack London in The Iron Heel where the events of the novel were exposed by documents read after the events of the novel took place.

As Gorski investigates Bathelme’s death, we have to question whether he actually believes there is a connection with the dead woman or just wants there to be. Clever, meandering and oh, so French… Burnet really has — a rare thing nowadays — a novelist’s eye… I confess myself seduced by the atmosphere of provincial ennui. His dazzling second novel, His Bloody Project, was shortlisted for the Booker prize in 2016, and in 2022 his 'brilliant, bamboozling' (Telegraph) fourth novel, Case Study, appeared on the Booker longlist.The audiobook reflects Rhonda’s own journey and shares the most direct way out for those experiencing hardship and the path to end pain and suffering endured by so many, and it shines a light on a future without anxiety or fear.
