Once this automation is set up with the correct Dimmers, you will be able to switch and Dim form any of them just like a conventional multiway switching set up that includes 2-way and intermediate points. I have the covers aswell - I swapped out the LW switches with some basic MK ones and the cover goes on top with a Hue remote magnetically on top - so you can leave the remote on it or take off Traditionally and with the Connect Series dimmers, they need to be wired together for this to work. From the app, you just tap a device to toggle it on or off. For the Smart Dimmers, you can long-press and then use the slider to set the brightness level you want. Generation 2 devices display the current state, and Smart Dimmers return to their last set brightness level when you tap them on. Please remember that only the MASTER dimmer will need to be calibrated for lamp compatibility and stability, the Secondary devices will simply follow suit. If you are in a scenario where you do not have neutral wires and you are connecting a 1gang to another 1gang dimmer then please see the below video : Two-way wiring can look very complicated at first, however, as long as your lighting is working well on your manual switches, it should be simple to swap to Lightwave’s Smart series. Installation of the smart switch is a DIY job, but it’s once you’ve connected your switch to the Lightwave app that the real fun begins. Create ‘scenes’ – personalised lighting configurations to match the mood you’re in, or the activities you have planned for the evening. A mix of blues and greens might be great for yoga, perhaps, whereas yellow might be your colour for reading. A rosy pink hue… we’ll leave that one up to you.

The Lightwave Generation 1 switches looked super-attractive, and the Generation 2 Smart Dimmers maintain the same quality build. Finished in brushed steel, the switches look every bit like high-end designer models. The only slight disappointment is that, currently, this is the only finish available. The previous generation offered a range of options. At the first switch, move all wires fitted to L1 to the L terminal on the Lightwave switch. Move all wires fitted to L2 to the X terminal on the Lightwave switch. Move all wires fitted to C to the L terminal on the Lightwave switch. The most important consideration when you’re looking for the best smart light switch is its compatibility. For example, the Philips Hue dimmer switch v2 is designed to connect to Philips’ own Hue lights, but as it uses the Zigbee Light Link protocol it should also work with other Zigbee-based bulbs, such as IKEA’s TRADFRI. We say “should” rather than “will” because Philips makes no promises about interoperability here.

the "niko" in theory can replace the official light switch, but I don't like hard wiring it "on", hence I'm keeping the switches covered (unless a 3rd party comes up with ta product that has both the mechanical switch + wireless kinetic) Better hardware and a cleaner app make the Generation 2 kit interesting, particularly if you want to use Apple Home. I like the wider LED bulb support, too.From the app, you can automate your devices, choosing when they should come on or off. There are Dawn and Dusk options, or you can set a specific time if you prefer. This is a neat way of automating your lights, particularly if you’re on holiday and want it to look as though someone is in the home. Lightwave Generation 2 – Alexa, HomeKit and Google Home and a "niko" branded square one with 4 buttons with short/long hold assignable to anything from the app - individual lights or moods or rooms or upstairs or downstairs... Bear in mind that there are two Lightwave apps – (the Lightwave RF app is for the older series) which is confusing. While I was able to use the Lightwave app to set schedules it’s someone unintuitive to use – here HomeKit is much more user-friendly. In the Lightwave app, you can enter your electricity tariff and the app will then monitor your energy consumption. User-Friendly Installation: Lightwave products are designed with DIY installation in mind. However, for those who prefer a professional touch, a network of certified installers is available to assist.

When my wife had mobility problems in the house, I added the infrared sensors and all the hallway lights were activated by them - didn't use the switches at all. You can Also use a MAGIC BUTTON in this type of automation to control the same lighting circuit (Wireless spare gang on a dimmer)

Philips Hue arguably offers greater choice for lighting options, but the downside is that its accessories and switches don’t look as good. If you want a high-end installation and are happy controlling normal lights, Lightwave Generation 2 is a great system. The Automation is now complete and the selected Dimmers have been set up to perform multiway switching So the stairs have their mechanical switches but covered so guests can't change the "always on" switch underneath - and up/downstairs can be controlled from the remotes or wireless switches. Having a metal faceplate adds a premium feel and, though I thought this might annoy me at first, I actually like having the LED status light. The LED colour and brightness can be customized in the Lightwave app, though it can't be turned off completely, unfortunately. Those in the UK looking for a HomeKit-compatible, hardwired smart switch solution should get the Lightwave Smart Series Light Switches. Though they are quite an investment both in terms of money and time, the end result is still worth it.
