Two things make the Questar especially comfortable. First, Therm-a-Rest’s new W.A.R.M. system (“With Added Room for Multiple Positions”) provides a little extra space. This is better for wider shoulders and those who like to shift positions at night. Second, the 20-denier polyester taffeta remains surprisingly quiet as you move around. Synthetic fills are measured by the grams per meter squared (GSM) metric. This gives users an idea of how warm the sleeping bag will end up being. For example, a synthetic fill with a 2.5 oz. GSM can expect to provide a temperature rating of around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Its cotton canvas cover got some weight onto it, but it’s not the heaviest. It feels pretty solid, doesn’t feel cheap at all. Compared to other rectangle-shaped bags we’ve tested, like the ALPS Redwood, there isn’t much difference to write home about, however, we did miss the cinch cord that the Redwood has over this L.L.Bean bag. Being able to close up the Redwood on cooler nights kept us warmer overall, and this means the L.L.Bean bag will likely only come out on more fair-weather trips.
