So while yes, the authors could and perhaps should have included a more detailed citation of the paper than the limited quote from the abstract, the full story isn't nearly as close to a full about-face that would amount to intentional mischaracterization. This is a warning people, going down this road and reading these books, having these discussions, making these choices for your kids offers nothing but pain, these societies around the planet don't like us thinking for ourselves, its too dangerous for them for us to think, so strap on your Nikes, log into your fantasy football league, make some comments on FB and stay there where its normal and safe, because this path that I am on is a frigging nightmare. To round out the response to this objection, it's absurd to complain that the citation list is too extensive and full of irrelevant information, and that "the authors might have produced a book less than 10% the length", as if the authors had done so, the objection of course would have been rather that the narrative was not sufficiently documented or based in the scientific literature.

While I'm not necessarily convinced by the virulent (bad pun intended) anti-vaccine conclusions drawn by the book, I nevertheless find it is helpful in view of the historical data to have a more sober, moderate evaluation of the role of vaccines in improving public health. It's not often you read a book that peels back the layers and means you realise what a massive lie society has been fed and nourished on - in particular the great small pox and polio vaccine success myths. Well I happen to be a real scientist on this planet, and the treatment of Wakefield in the book, which I think was no longer than a paragraph, can hardly be characterized (honestly) as belief that some international cabal pulling all of the strings is disingenuous at best. The author also points out that we should not believe something just because someone in authority says it. We either sacrifice all of our kids at the alter of the collective good or hide in our house like troglodytes until we figure out what to do.
