Solid dive watches like the SKX781 are just one reason why that won’t likely be changing any time soon. It has a sturdy and attractive stainless steel diving bezel that rotates unidirectionally and a bright and highly visible orange dial. The Diver’s reassuringly hefty, and both the crown and the bezel move with admirable (if not ultimate) precision. Too bad the bezel’s edge is about aggressive as a garden snail. The bright orange dial and matching silicone branded strap more than make up for the wrist presence surrendered by the smaller case. By merely taking prototype watches with different colour dials into Lake Neuchatel they were able to determine that Orange was the easiest colour to read underwater. This time it’s a slightly more conventional-looking diver, more suited to wear to the office than the Bulova. It’s from a brand that is often under-rated and not one that you’re likely to see on the high street. Along the same vein, the shinier looks of the SRPD59 make it easier to wear with a dressier button-down shirt such as an OCBD, something I wouldn’t really consider with the SKX011. For this price, you’re getting a great-looking, solidly-built, highly-serviceable, and versatile automatic diver’s watch. Moreover, you’ll be buying your way into an online community of SKX collectors that will gladly take you in and show you the ropes to modding. If you’re not interested in DIY customizations, you can be sure that your SKX011 will give you plenty to talk about with other watch collectors that you meet in the flesh. The Navy Retro Diver does remind me of the original Doxa, despite not having the same signature cushion case. The colour palette, dial and bezel all draw comparisons on what would otherwise be a very distinctive watch.

It has a substantial size at 44mm, a mind-blowing 1000 meters of water resistance, and it’s as cool looking as all get out! If you want a slightly more substantial orange dial watch on your wrist, grab this one while it’s still available. Conclusion First released in the 90s, the SKX Seiko 5 Sports watches were a modernised version of the classics – updating the reliability and durability of the 1960s originals. The 90s collection offered improved practicality – enhanced water resistance, strengthened crystals along with luminous hands and hour markers. These wearable, loveable values still stay strong in today’s modernised Seiko 5 Sports designs. Personally, I find the SRPD59 more attractive and a more convenient watch to wear because of the upgraded movement & bracelet, but there are undoubtedly some who much prefer the utilitarian aesthetic of the SKX. Indeed, these are supposed to be “tool watches” and the SKX looks the part much more than the 5KX. As stylish as these watches appear, there’s more than just aesthetic considerations that have gone into the designs. The orange dial is a practical feature, proven to aid underwater legibility. It would appear that the watch has worked its way off the display cushion while in transit so I am very sorry for this. If the watch has been damaged by this we can arrange for it to be returned for a replacement. I can see from our system that this Seiko was delivered in to us from Seiko UK on Dec 2nd and is a brand new item. Please note that Seiko don't use as many covers as other watch manufacturers as they send them to us in bulk using polythene bags and the presentation boxes are sent separately. We then take the watch out of the polythene bag and put it on the display cushion in the official box before sending. On the other hand, the Orange Boy possesses a significant advantage – its screw-down crown. This allows the watch to attain a 200m water resistance rating that doubles the SRPD59’s 100m rating resulting from a non-screw-down crown. It’s a great all-rounder. It’s probably one of the first places I’d start if I wanted a modern, bold and orange diver.For one, the SKX011 “Orange Boy” boasts a bright orange dial with a flat texture and lume plots that are applied directly to the dial. The SRPD59 instead has a lustrous sunray texture with applied hour indices that has luminous fills.
