Jill Mansell is a writer who reliably produces good quality, feel good and heartwarming stories. Promise Me is no exception. It is unmistakably Jill Mansell at her best. As always though, a story may have the JM stamp upon it, but it still stands tall as a unique, warm, touching, witty and captivating story.

Lou had a good job, and a flat in Birmingham, but every changes overnight and she’s homeless and unemployed. Lou recently stayed with her friend Sammy in the Cotswold village of Foxwell. Whilst there, she was offered a job by eighty-year-old loner Edgar. Edgar is probably the most offensive, grumpy old man ever created and Lou has avoided his numerous calls so far. Lou is surprised to see the size of the estate that Edgar is living alone on. It is evident that he needs help to maintain his home and she soon learns that he has gone through a series of caregivers. When he offers Lou the job she explains that she already is caring for a woman in the town she lives in. He continues to pursue her and shortly thereafter her circumstances change. To sweeten the deal, Edgar offers to leave his estate to her upon his death.

This was a lovely heart-warming story that sang with all the delights of a typical cozy Hallmark film, complete with the cozy British feel-good warm fuzzy feelings of a large and loud colorful cast of characters that charm their way into your heart with their frantic antics and lovable moments. 🥹🥹 Simply an endearing and light read that makes you want to move to the countryside when all else fails, much like, Lou, our heroine did. Well, Jill Mansell has done it again guys. Jill is one of those beautifully consistent authors that always writes books that make you feel warm and cozy while you’re reading them (and long after). All of the characters in Promise Me felt so real, you can actually envisage them as people in the world around you. From Lou’s lovely personality to the grumpiness of Edgar, the charm of Remy through to the absolutely adorable four legged Captain Oates. There’s laughter, love and friendships abundance in this gorgeous book with a few moments in between that made me tear up a tiny bit (it wasn’t tiny, I cried like a baby realising it has to grow up and eventually pay bills). Taking the job means she's living close to old school friends, including the gorgeous Remy, in the tiny, picturesque Cotswolds village of Foxwell. Jill Mansell lives with her partner and children in Bristol, and writes full time. Actually that’s not true; she watches TV, eats fruit gums, admires the rugby players training in the sports field behind her house, and spends hours on the internet marvelling at how many other writers have blogs. Only when she’s completely run out of displacement activities does she write.I loved every second I spent reading this book. It is warm, realistic and life affirming' ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Wanneer het zonnetje schijnt en de vogeltjes hun mooiste melodieën ten gehore brengen, leven we toch weer een beetje op. De zonnestralen, vol vitamine D, toveren een glimlach op ons gezicht. De lente hangt in de lucht. Maar de lente begint pas écht als je de nieuwe Jill Mansell in handen hebt.
