Day 2: Option 1 – Ascent of Mulhacén, the highest mountain on the Iberian peninsular. A tough day of extensive climbing and high altitudes, but worth it for the sense of accomplishment and incredible views from the summit. Approx. 28km/17miles, 2,290m ascent/descent, max elevation 3,482m (Mulhacén summit). Option 2 – A point-to-point mountain trail run to the town of Trevélez experiencing the wilderness of the high Sierra. On clear days, you can glimpse the coast of Africa across the Mediterranean sea. Approx. 21km/13miles. 1,218m ascent, 1,300m descent, max elevation 2,242m. Its wonderful micro-climate: Lanjarón is situated on the edge of a valley and surrounded by large mountains, protecting it from harsh winters and cooled by mountain breezes during hot summers

The BTT1 Circular is of medium-high physical difficulty and medium-low technical difficulty, it departs from the tourist office in front of the Lanjarón Spa and then soon after follows the forested lane next to the Museum of Honey for a long climb of almost 16 kilometers.

With soaring Sycamore trees lining the streets, a lush forest with babbling brooks, overflowing fountains, and sumptuous hiking trails... Lanjaron is a delight for the visitor! Home to the highest mountains in Western Europe outside of the Alps and with more than 25 peaks over 3000m, the Sierra Nevada is the ideal location for high-altitude training. Today Lanjaron is a very gentile town, apart from the night of the 23rd June that is. You can wander up the main street, take the waters and have coffee or tea complete with sandwiches, ice cream and cakes if you wish, all very reminiscent of Bath or Harrogate. Be warned though, siesta is taken very seriously here.
