The Revopoint POP 2 and Creality CR-Scan 01 are general use scanners suitable for capturing a broad range of items, but the richness of detail tends to tail off for smaller objects. This makes them ideal for face and body scans, for example.

Creality CR-SCAN01 3D modeling scanner adopts intelligent large-scale alignment algorithm to ensure automatic matching without manual grid alignment, calibration, or the use of markers.Given that this scanner does not use Structured Light, as is the case with the Einscan S tested years ago or the Revopoint Mini, it then becomes difficult to compare the unit with these scanners. Since the 3D scanner is an optical device, light and places that the camera cannot illuminate are not scanned, such as the inside of shoes, the bottom of cups. ¶ 14. What's the requirement of a computer to run CR studio? The Creality CR-Scan 01 has both a stationary turntable and handheld mode. Much like the Revopoint POP 2, it isn’t designed for outdoor use. Also, with my current skills and knowledge, I cannot scan 28mm tabletop miniatures well with the Lizard.

Whether the scan distance or scan move speed would effect the accuracy of the model? Would it be clearer if the scanner get close to the scanning object? ¶ 13. How to understand the scanning depth? The kit I received included some extras and was considered a premium upgrade. The upgrade is for capturing textures with a separate camera. The idea is to use a smartphone or camera in conjunction with the scanner to capture color textures. The turntable starts turning as soon as power is applied and is not controlled. The camera box included with the color kit is lit by a USB-powered led strip. Like I previously stated, the 3D scanner does not use visible light and works regardless of the visible lighting conditions and is only needed for color textures. First scan with CR-Scan Lizard Scanning speed is up to 10fps. ¶ 5. Is it possible to modify the scanned model by using other 3D design software. The Lizard does not get along as well as the Revopoint Mini with very small models (e.g., the 28mm tabletop miniatures). If you can get a decent scan, the difference isn’t huge, but it’s visible. I usually fail to even get a reasonable scan of such a mini-figure as the scanner usually does not capture the figure at all. It’s probably just too small. However, the scan becomes much more reliable as the size of the object increases.

Whatever the technology is, I find the Creality CRScan Lizard better than all my old scanners (line laser, Kinect, etc.). It is also much better and faster than other scanners I have used in my experiments with photogrammetry. By the way, just to be clear, most of my scanning projects involve small to medium-sized parts in turntable operation. The scanning technique that is suitable depends on what is to be scanned. Therefore, what suits me may not suit you – and vice versa. This entry-level Creality 3D scanner Lizard for consumers follows the CR Scan 01 — as an affordable option for users to digitalize objects. The new Lizard is smaller in size for better portability and feel with improved features such as accuracy up to 0.05 mm, and better handling of bright environments and dark objects. All that for less money than its predecessor, even. The turntable provided with the CR-Scan Lizard is super basic but effective. I did some experimenting after I found out how to increase the number of frames in the config file for a turntable scan. The thought was if I double the frame count and half the turntable speed, I could capture more points giving better scans. I sacrificed a cheap USB extension cable and installed a pot to lower the voltage. I went as far as to more than triple the frames and third the speed of the turntable….but alas I couldn’t see any appreciable difference and just added time. In addition to direct plug-in and USB charging, CR-Scan Lizard can also be charged with a charger (sold separately), even in places without power, it can be taken outdoors for scanning, improving scanning flexibility, It brings more convenience to users.

Over to the Creality, and we have a mixed bag. The Creality CR-Scan 01 matches Revopoint with 24-bit high-fidelity color reproduction achieved by snapping color images of the object and slapping them onto the scanned data. A color scan I did of a Rubik’s cube with my Revopoint POP 2. This is not a particularly sophisticated piece of technology. The turntable gets power via a USB cable, either from the PC, a mobile phone power supply or a power bank. If there is power, it rotates at a fixed speed. In contrast, the Lizard 3D scanner delivers even higher precision with its remarkable 0.05mm accuracy. This makes it an ideal choice for scanning small components or prototypes that demand intricate details. The Lizard also supports no-marker scanning, eliminating the need for additional markers to enhance accuracy. With its automated data processing capabilities, the Lizard simplifies post-processing, saving valuable time and effort. Regarding power, the Ferret scanner boasts low power consumption and can be powered by a 5V power bank or even an Android phone, providing both convenience and flexibility for scanning on the go. In contrast, the Lizard scanner necessitates a 12V3A DC power supply. Price and Value

An additional step is added to the process to capture color textures. Setting up is similar to a regular scan and I used a Pixel 6 to capture photos. Which turned out to be way overkill.
