The latest offering in the series of new edition Kill Team releases, Nachmund carries the torch forward with a similar level of pomp and fanfare to its predecessors. With enough new rules to keep competitive players’ noses buried in the new expansion’s book, and some truly fantastic miniatures to boot, Nachmund is only let down by the fact its sprues are extremely complicated and its assembly guide contains a number of glaring mistakes. Both offer Vantage Points. The set comes with two Hatches, which have two all-new trait keywords: Small and Explorable. Fowler: The landing pad is definitely a luxury, especially as it may not be universally useful terrain. If you are interested and the price works for you – it’s a great piece of kit. There’s a good spread of stuff in here: large pieces, smaller bits, and my personal favourite, the crane. The Sector Mechanicus kit is also quite multi-levelled, which will help bring a sense of proper verticality to your games of Kill Team, instead of limiting your battlefield to whatever table surface you’d usually play on. Assuming the new Kill Team War Zone is hit with a price hike, then it could be anything up to 20% on top of any expected price point… The Requisitions here let you mark operatives for Greatness, letting you convert regular hits as crits for as long as that operative isn’t outshone by another operative on the team. Eye of the Gods rewards an operative for taking out an enemy leader, healing their scars and giving them D3 extra XP. And Cast Aside lets your operative lose their mark of chaos ability for D3 battles instead of taking on a battle scar, showing how the gods have turned their gaze away for a time. If you’re looking for well-made, high-quality terrain for your Kill Team or Necromunda games, this box is a solid win and I would strongly suggest you invest in it. It’s got everything you need in one box and its different take on how the buildings on the edge of the Imperium look is a refreshing change. There are some good missions here, with some clever hooks. For many of them I think the boxed set terrain is an OK start but not really ideal, and I’d suggest upping the stakes and adding more terrain to the table if you’ve got it.

Accessories

From a narrative standpoint, there’s a ton of cool stuff about this terrain, which can be used to build some very cool features and add interesting add-ons to existing features. There aren’t enough “whole, complete buildings” in the 40k terrain library and while that makes sense from the standpoint of building terrain you can interact with in 40k, it also makes things a little boring when you can’t have a battle in a yet-to-be-destroyed part of a city or planet.

If you are interested in saving even more money, you’ll want to have a look at your local independent gaming store, or have a poke around your favourite online retailer. There are one or two mislabelled components – such as the hatch that goes on top of the Fuel Reservoir – but these are easy enough to circumnavigate, as the clear pictures throughout the guide make it easy to match components to their images. The scenery has been a bit of a mess to work out. Whilst there’s a lot here. it’s little more than a bunch of old sets with a new paint job. Literally. everything silver and beige is now blue and white.These boxes tend to be fairly predictable in their contents so as not to play favourites with certain factions, so each release tends to contain a new rules manual, two Kill Teams of around 10 miniatures, some transfer sheets, a few bits of terrain, and a new gaming board for players to play on. Sure, Octarius had a few extras, but that’s to be expected as it was a new edition launch special. So far, the newest edition of Kill Team and its expansions have been fairly well-received by the community. Whilst the new models on offer have left painters and gamers alike drooling, some of the rules have received a bit of a mixed reception – which you can read about in our original Octarius review – but with each expansion, some of these are slowly ironed out, which is good. Beneath the plastic lies a divider, designed to keep the pointy bits of sprue from scratching up the stuff beneath. So whether you play Kill Team (Nachmund) or not, this could have value. However, if you don’t need the terrain, there isn’t a ton of value for just the miniatures!

The Power Relay Substation gives players the option of performing the Salvage Power Core action, which can net you an extra CP on a 3+.

Is the Box Worth it?

We are still oin Q1 of 2022 and already we have seen the new Kill Team Starter Set (essentially Octarius lite) release at the end of January. The prices are guessed at this point, but based on what we’ve seen, we think this is pretty close. Terrain The walls/fences are pretty straightforward as well, and come with a series of corner pieces you can use to set corners for them, though enterprising modelers may want to magnetize these to create something more modular. The actual pieces aren’t particularly built with this in mind, however. If you’re happy with the Kill Teams in Nachmund and just want to get going with your gaming, GW does a couple of bundles to get you started, but they aren’t cheap. There’s the Rules Collection as well as the all-inclusive Essentials Collection. I mean, I expect this to still be somewhere between a 30% – 40% discount. bit no matter which way you slice it, you;re paying the bulk here for terrain pieces. Which is what Kill team is very much about.
