At the heart of the Stash system is the burner/regulator. Made of titanium, this component marks the biggest technological advancement in the Stash. The Jetboil MicroMo has the same pot size as the Jetboil Zip, but its stove has more power, comes with a push-button igniter, and has a built-in pressure regular so it’s better for cold weather use. A pressure regular helps maintain a steady flow of fuel from a canister to the stove as the gas pressure in the canister drops. This occurs when the outside temperature falls or as the gas in the canister is used up. The MicroMo will still only burn canister gas down to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but it will burn hotter and more forcefully than the unregulated Zip or Flash stoves until the pressure in the canister drops below the minimum pressure required by the stove to operate. The MicroMo is also designed to simmer, so you can cook things like scrambled eggs or pasta with cream sauce, although it’s easier to do this with the Jetboil MiniMo. Like the Zip, you can expect to get boil 12 liters of water with a 100 g fuel canister. Important to note is that of the lighter stoves, only the Soto has a regulator, and none of them have the push-button piezo ignitor native to the MightyMo. It’s hard to argue those features aren’t worth the extra ounce or so .

As a result, the Jetboil Stash takes the best parts of both kinds of stoves. It’s lighter and more compact than any other integrated stove on the market, including our winner for integrated stove, the Jetboil Minimo. Yet, the Stash has the fuel efficiency of an integrated system. Our testers also thought the pour spout that comes with the lid could be better angled and more generous, but honestly, we recognize just having a pot lid with a pour spout is rare and exciting in the gear world. What customers love is that the pot is not too deep and that it’s wide, so it’s comfortable to eat from directly. And if you’re worried about burning your hands with the pot, it’s covered with a fabric cozy and has a metal handle on one side for more comfortable cooking.

When comparing fuel types, things get surprisingly complicated. I’ll try to summarize without getting too much into the boring details here. Jetboil actively promotes use of its companion FluxRing pots and pans in conjunction with this stove. They aren’t necessary and were not tested but we suspect they would marginally increase wind performance, boil averages, and efficiency. Efficiency Another benefit of the regulator is flame consistency regardless of canister volume. This means that in most use cases, outside of extreme cold or brutal winds, users of the MightyMo can more accurately plan how much fuel they carry. Cooking In many respects, the MiniMo cook system is similar to the Stash. The MiniMo is fairly light and compact, boils super fast, and features a cookpot that’s designed to house both a 100g fuel canister, the burner, and the included stabilizer.We also love the included cookpot on the MiniMo, which is essentially a compact version of JetBoil’s other popular insulated cookpots. Because it’s both wider and larger than the Stash (it’s a full liter), the MiniMo is better suited to simple cooking tasks like boiling pasta. It’s still a stretch for more complicated meals, but the burner has decent simmering performance, so you can get creative with smaller portions or just step up to a larger pot when you want to. Igniters are often left off basic models and included as a higher-end feature on canister stoves. We were already out in the middle of nowhere, so finding a local Bass Pro or REI was out of the question. I managed to find a tiny Wal-Mart, and wouldn’t you know it, they had plenty of Coleman fuel–and nothing else. What we didn’t like: weight (although it’s quite good for a group stove), slower boil (but only by a few seconds)
